Crossing Paths

Lucia

Flames rippled and roared as the fire finally started to engulf the neatly placed wood beneath it. A crock pot atop the flames, hanging from the tripod of sturdy, wooden poles, boiled and bubbled furiously. The meat and vegetables rolled with the gurgling stock, and Bygul warmed his belly beside the flames. The horses, Fantasy and Magni kissed and nipped at one another, grooming each other as lovers. The roan mare was just a bit wider at the waist. Just a bit rounded. The sweet blue of her eyes glowed just a little brighter. Ezra, hands caressing the growing mare from her shoulder to her rump, couldn't help the gentle smile that grew on his features.

There was a debate between he and Arrow whether Fantasy might be with foal, and Ezra was the most skeptical between them. Time and patience won them over and rewarded them with the happy mare's belly that was just starting to show signs short of the half-way mark to the predicted birth. Moving from Fantasy so she wouldn't be torn between Magni and he, he plopped himself on the ground and patted Arrow on the back.

“You were right, Arrow, my boy!” His words were light-hearted and filled with happiness. Arrow laughed as he poked the fire, and the merchant nodded,” How did you know?” Folded arms rested on his knees as he looked over the young collie-mutt.

“I'jus knew'ah guess?” Youthful laughter muddled his language even more than his uneducated lexis, for lack of a better excuse.

Flower gleam and glow,

See the Light, it's blinding

Her little cottage was a long way away from Casa and though she had been offered the passage of their ship Lucia had gracefully declined. The distance did not bother her and she was not in such a great rush to be home again. The travel would do her good, Lucia had lived her life on the move.

The life of a wild wolf was ever changing, with no pack to protect her now Lucia was her own Alphess. She was changed.

Her paws ate up the miles between Casa and the mountains, it would be a circuitous route as she wished to stay as far away from Salsola as she could.

She stopped to lap at water from a small stream. On the breeze drifted the scent of food, her stomach grumbled and reminded her she hadn't eaten since the early morning.

She wondered if they might find it in their hearts to share a small piece with her but if not, Lucia could easily catch her own food. It never did hurt to ask.

She followed the scents back towards their origins and padded closer to the two men and their small herd of animals. Not so close that they might feel threatened though or that she couldn't flee if needs be. The lupus lady could run very fast indeed in her four legged form, fast as the winds.

"Hello there..." She spoke in her gentle, lilting voice.

As their laughter slowly came to a lull, the sighs of relief from all the effort put into the mirthful noise filled the space between the crackling flames, a small voice chimed in the darkness. The boys were both caught off guard, Arrow nearly jumping out of his skin at the unexpected voice, and Ezra standing to his full height to meet the woman who spoke the soft notes. Arrow tripped over his own feet a bit before righting himself, all the while Ezra offered a polite bow,” Well hello, dear lady,” Charming tunes held the warmth of the fire, despite the imprint of the dagger that rested in the high waist of his pants, beneath the billowing vanilla linen shirt,” What brings you here?” There was a bit of tension between them all, the woman not quite moving into their space completely, but Ezra not quite moving into hers.

Arrow, on the other hand, not quite noting the more subtle points of loner interaction, finally managed to find his voice,”Heh'lo...” He peeped, his voice a staccato roll beside Ezra's own. His earthy eye glittered with the reflection of her image,”Y'sur'ar purdy lass, Y'ar,” Turning his muzzle down to copy Ezra's actions, he felt the poet's hand brace his shoulder. It was more a mention to stay where he was for the moment, but Arrow was thankful for the additional stability Ezra's arm offered. Nothing could hide the look in his eye, though. It wasn't one of lust at all, but wonder. The boy's first crush, without him knowing. Tipped ears swayed back, but the wag of his tail displayed a lack of apprehension, completely willing to allow her entry to their small camp, were it not for the wiser Ezra.

Apparently her approach had been stealthier than she had intended, the men were startled from their camaraderie in an amusing manner. Lucia ducked her head to hide her shy smile.

As the male bowed to her, she caught the dangle of his necklace and its shape was familiar to her. She could never forget the contour of Vinátta after the many gatherings and socializing of youths.

A wind rose briefly, sending sparks from the fire and ruffling her fur,

"I was... hoping you might be willing to, maybe, share some of you food with me." She smiled, ducking her head and knowing that her request was just shy of audacious and that they would be within their right to refuse and send her on her way, that would be regrettable but uncontested by herself.

The other male spoke now, his accented words a direct juxtaposition of his courtlier friends. Lucia paused, unsure as to how to react to this,

"Oh.. that's very kind of you to say." A flush spread prettily across her pale cheeks. Lucia had never become used to being complimented on her appearance, she was a humble female, unaware of her own ethereal beauty.

"That is a Vinátta necklace you wear..? I am Lucia.. Amarok, I used to run with New Dawn." The pale femme's smile was touched with sadness, a pain that sunk down deep into the plaintive, river-blue of her eyes.

If this man had been of the viking people then to Lucia he was something to be less wary of, this reflected in her body.
