[ALL PUPS WELCOME]

POSTED: Fri Mar 08, 2013 10:21 am

ALL PUPS ARE WELCOME REGARDLESS OF AGE. You are welcome to join in AT ANY TIME, regardless of how far the thread has gone on! If no-one else joins, I'll turn this into a self-thread with Saul and Sóli :D

One of the advantages of rising with the dawn was the abundance of rabbits. They preferred dusk and dawn, although it was still common to see the flash of a white tail when moving through the grounds in midday. Today, the grey Virding had taken it upon himself to move as quietly as he could through the dawn mists. He had a plan for today and he needed a good many rabbits alive to do it. It didn't always go to plan and Saul ended up on his rump a fair few times before the bag he carried was squirming with rabbits. A few were older he could tell, but the vast majority were young and lively, which would make today's lesson more memorable for those he intended to teach. It was, of course, the whole packs responsibility to teach the young and Saul had concocted this exercise a few days ago.

The village hall was a barely used structure, but Saul hoped that when the library was built and the training grounds, the market were here it would resemble an actual village. For today, however, the village hall was a perfectly enclosed space that would allow the pups to make mistakes and chase until their hearts desired. He'd considered taking them out into the forest to track the rabbits down themselves, but they were a clumsy lot and many were too young. This way, they would be able to learn in a safe environment that meant when they let the rabbits go, they couldn't run too far. Entering the village hall, Saul had placed the bag gently on the floor before releasing the rabbits.

As expected, they scattered. Many made for the barred door, but soon enough they all realised they had no escape routes. Eventually, the group of ten or so rabbits began to huddle over by the fireplace, which made his own escape easier. Shutting the door firmly, the grey male had sent up an invitation to the Aeska to meet him here. He hoped his own children would come and the Flowers- Colibri wasn't the best hunter and Saul felt the need to help the girls out a little. More than that though, he thought of Lochlan and Teagan, of Tayui and Anu's brood, the Kurosoul twins, even Leaf would be more than welcome in the hall. Waiting outside the hall for the little hunters to arrive, Saul filled his lungs and let it out slowly, anticipation coiling in his gut.

Waking up with in a heap with her brothers was a familiar and comforting feeling. Since she could remember, the three of them had shared the room next to their parents, curling up in a loose group together in the evening. By morning, she was usually sprawled out on top of at least one of them and the other usually had her legs trapped or something equally as difficult to get out of. This morning, however, found a chocolate tipped paw pressed to her belly and subsequently her bladder. It wasn't a pleasant feeling and Sóli knew that shortly she would be emptying it on her brothers unless she got outside. Early on the pups had learnt that soiling inside the house wasn't allowed and the girl had been good to do her business outside. With a wide yawn, the golden girl wriggled backwards, back paws trampling all over Rúni's face before she extracted herself from the melee.

Nosing her way out of the house, the girl made for the cover of the trees before squatting and letting her bladder go. It was a relief and she gave a body-cracking stretch afterwards. Today was a new day and the girl had no idea how she was going to spend it. The Gods answered her ponderous thoughts and it was in the form of one of her favourite people- her father. His call was further away than it usually was but it seemed easy enough to follow. Glancing back towards the house, the girl considered waking her brothers. But the chance to spend some time with her father pulled her forward and she took off. The girls legs were gangly, propelling her forward in a hectic gambol of paws and tail.

The girl hadn't explored much of this part of the forest, but as she approached, a grin tugged her lips up. The clearly in which her father stood wasn't natural and the squat building he guarded had never been seen by the girl. But she bound forward regardless, greeting her father with her customary headbutt to his legs. "Daddy! What are we doing today?" She questioned immediately, stepping back to look up at his tall optime form, whip tail flashing back and forth in excitement. "speech"

Runi loved to sleep, it was his third most favourite thing to do, right after eat and play outside. These were all pretty simple needs and wants, but then he was a cub. Of course, having his face trodden on by his sister, especially during a great dream, was something he was less impressed with and he growled in protest at her disappearing form. The puppy pile had been warm and now one of his sides was cold. The smell that wafted in from outside though were tempting, Vinatta’s lands always had the power to draw the green eyed cub out of his home.

Soli’s scent led him out of the house, and he was just about to enter the nearby trees when he heard the call. His heart pounded with excitement at the sound, the voice was attached to someone he loved very dearly. Runi would have reacted more quickly, but first he had to find Soli and give her a piece of his mind. He plunged quickly into the trees and sniffed around, finding where she had relieved herself. Being a bloke, and annoyed, he made sure to empty his own bladder over hers and then, satisfied with his work, dashed off towards his dad.

And there she was, that honey coloured sister of his, standing in front of the strongest wolf in the world, their sire. He moved up to the pair and nipped his sibling’s cheek.

”You woke me up!”

He pointed out in a cub’s gruffness, before sitting himself down and giving himself a protracted, and clearly enjoyed, scratch. It went on for a good couple of moments before he looked up at his dad.

”Dad you’re too tall, bend down.”

He had to squint a little against the glare of the day to his father’s face. It was clear that Runi was not a morning person, especially one who was rudely awoken before he’d decided to wake up. The scent of rabbits on Saul was totally lost on the green eyed boy.

All pups are still welcome to join!

The cinnamon-touched male did not have to wait long for his disciples to join him and he was pleased to see that his own were the first to arrive. Sólieri looked nothing like Lilin or him and he often wondered where the plush gold of her coat came from. He supposed it might have come from the Dawnrunners and he tried not to dwell so deeply on this. Should Sóli ever need to take refuge in the Solbjorg, there might not be a friendly face for her if her Dawnrunner heritage was so obvious. As the girl came careening forward, Saul braced himself as her hard head collided with his calf. He'd noticed that she didn't do this with her female relatives, although Florina and Farina were accorded similar. She seemed to reserve it for male relatives and he gave a soft chuckle before bending and rubbing his calf.

With a quiet 'You'll see' to the girl, Saul looked up and wasn't surprised to see Rúni barrelling towards them. The pair of them were often as not biting and snapping at each other and Saul wasn't phased with Rúni's greeting to his sister. Sólieri didn't hesitate to fight back and with a chuckle, Saul put a foot between them to prevent a full out brawl. Rú seemed to have accorded his retribution however as he sat down, back leg moving to scratch against his body. Bright green eyes looked down into slightly darker as his son looked up at him, a command on his lips. With a chuckle, he did as he was bid, sinking to his knees so that he could talk to them about what he had planned for today.

"We're going to do some hunting practise today. Inside the hall there are some rabbits that we're going to practise on." He spoke softly to his children, and any others who might have gathered around for the lesson. It didn't take long for his daughter to become excited; she jumped forward front paws resting on his legs as she tried to lick his face. "Come on guys, lets go inside." He offered with a laugh, pushing the girl away and standing. Cautiously he opened the door, waiting for a rush of rabbits. They were still at the far end and with a sigh, he ushered the pups inside before shutting the door securely. "Now guys, line up on the wall by the door." He directed, hoping to give some instruction before all hell broke loose.

The giant foot between them stopped any further thought that the green eyed cub might have had of continuing the tussle with his sister. Although Runi was gratified to see that his order was obeyed, and his father lowered himself to a more normal level. Soli licked their father’s face and Runi moved forward to touch his dad’s knee, listening as he spoke. His tail began to wag at the news that they’d be hunting, practising what the adults did, this was something he knew he’d be good at, and Saul would think him a master before the day was out.

When the door was opened he trotted inside, his body almost vibrating with excitement. His dark green eyes fixed on the rabbits, Runi lined up as he was told, ears forward and body twitching gently. He waited, quiet and attentive, he thought he heard his dad about to speak and it was no good. He tore off towards the other end of the hall. The rabbits, clearly nervous already, exploded in all directions with squeals of terror, bounding around. The young male dashed in all directions, nipping at them, but never quite managing to get more than a mouthful of fur. The noise was quite incredible considering it was only Runi and the rabbits making any. Runi began chasing one that was easily larger than himself, but so stupid was the creature that it didn’t stop to consider, just bounded around the room.

”I’ve got one!”

He said yipping at a rabbit he had been chasing for more than five seconds. He was so excited now, he merely chased anything that moved.

When she asked her father what they'd be doing, he told her to wait and she'd see. Sólieri was never a very patient female and she settled back to wait with a pout and anyone else who might turn up. It had to be her brother it seemed and Rúni's line of thinking was on revenge. The nip to her cheek hurt and she gave a yelp of surprise as well as pain. With a ferocious growl, she turned to pay him back even as he explained the nip he'd given her. She didn't care if she'd woke him up, she did it most mornings just for the fun of it and as such simply stuck her tongue out at him. Before she could really get any closer to tackle her brother and make him pay for the pain, her fathers leg intervened between the two of them and the girl knew it was over. Neither of them could really deny him and Sóli settled for getting revenge later. It was all their lives consisted of at the moment and she was perfectly fine with that.

Rúni's demands meant that their father came closer and the girl wriggled forward, placing paws on her fathers legs and reaching up to kiss his cheek, an apology for wanting to hurt Rúni in return. Her brother wasn't far behind and Sóli resisted the urge to 'fall' on him in the process of getting down from her daddy's lap. However, the grey patriarch was speaking and the girl turned her face towards him, the grin lighting up almost instantly. She remembered stalking practise with daddy and how fun that had been. This was going to be ten times better, she just knew it. Fighting for contention to get into the hall first, the girl did as she was bid and lined up against the wall. It seemed as though their father was to instruct them, but it all went out the window. As soon as the pups were secure inside, the rabbits had scattered.

She was trying to be a good girl, she really was. But as Rúni scampered after one of the rabbits, teeth snapping on fluffy white tail, his cry spurred the girl forward. With a battle cry, she charged into the fray, body twisting eagerly as she sent the rabbits scattering. They regrouped for protection, but there really wasn't anywhere to run to and in some ways, the pup lost her head a bit. Similar to her brother she managed to single one out, her body twisting this way and that to cut off the escape route the rabbit was looking for. It was so fast though and after a moment, frustration caused the girl to stumble and she fell headlong into her fathers leg with a yelp of surprise and no rabbit to show for it. "speech"

With each passing day he drifted away from his family and his home, adventuring the great world outdoors independently whilst still within the safety of terrain of Jordheim; of which he was quickly learning to differentiate the various mismatched hill houses and the seemingly random way they were scattered without any apparent thought. Wriggling on his back like a worm or a captured prey, he munched up and down the length of a low branch, consuming parts of it's bark and what remained of it's leaves, all the while his pelt similarly gathered that which coated the floor he lay on. Like a true pup, no matter how spotless and pristine he looked upon leaving, he quickly managed to track down every mud hole, puddle and general area in which he can get himself utterly filthy in; part of the reason was the extra attention he got and additional cleaning as a result.

Releasing the branch he held hostage in his maw, the brown coated pup stared up at the sky, ears twitching as a howl rung clear through the land; a summons he was sure of and one for pups, although having nether been summoned by anyone but family before the little Couer simply lay there, mouth hanging open and pink tongue slung out the side of it. Slowly he rolled to his feet, shaking himself out as he had learned to do when wet to displace the majority of the debris from himself.

Looking in the direction of the call he made his way towards the place slowly, unsure if it was really for him and what to make of the situation. As such, it took him awhile to track down where he was meant to be. Sliding in late he eyed the pups and adult gathered, tail flicking low between his legs as he stood there dumbfounded and unsure what to next now that he was there. “Eh-er-ehm, 'scuse, 'ister. Someone called-ed?” his voice was loud despite the nerves, orange eyes glancing around curiously but keeping low in submission.

Awkward pup is unsure what he is doing there xD [+3]

All pups are still welcome to join!

Perhaps it was his mistake to keep the rabbits loose in the hall. It would have been easy to construct a rough pen to keep them in and release them when he was good and ready. But as they entered, the rabbits caught whiff of the concentrated stench of wolf and it sent them scattering. Like a flock of birds, they moved almost together, breaking apart when they were faced with an obstacle and coming swiftly back together. Saul understood perfectly; there was safety in numbers even if some of the others suffered for it. However, it was too much for his son, who'd spotted the rabbits straight away. His instincts were good although his technique left everything to be desired. He should have expected him to be unable to contain himself and with too much excitement his son bound forward intent on catching one.

Almost instantly, Sólieri crumbled as well and she charged forward with a battle cry. Despite the entertainment value of watching his children scramble after the scattered rabbits, he forced himself to concentrate on how they could improve. At almost the same time, two things happened. Sóli tripped and stumbled, her body crashing into his legs. Pain radiated up his legs and he couldn't help a yelp of his own. Then came an uncertain voice down almost behind him and the male turned watering eyes to the small body of Valérian Coeur. With a deep breath, he tried a smile for the boy. "Val! Why don't you come and join us? We're practising hunting rabbits." He offered, gesturing towards the small group of rabbits currently behind terrorised by his son.

"Rúni, come back here. I've got something to say to you!" He called, voice stern to catch the boys attention. He leaned down, checking that his daughter hadn't hurt herself badly. She'd clambered to her feet pretty quickly after her collision and her interest in the new pup had kept her from running off after the rabbits. "Now, when hunting rabbits, you have to be very, very quick. You have to twist your body this way and that to try and cut the rabbit off." He explained to the children. "Try and keep it out in the open; if it gets into some brambles or in this case the table, you'll slow down and you won't be able to catch it." He gestured towards the long table that dominated almost the entire room. "It will probably tire before you do, but dont count on it. When it slows down for just a second, pounce. You'll never be able to completely outrun it so as soon as you get close enough, try and bite it behind the neck or around the middle." He offered, hoping to give a little more direction to the higgledy-piggledy technique he'd seen so far.

Runi’s enjoyment never turned to frustration. Instead he dashed about like a being utterly possessed. He dash first one way, then when the rabbit proved too difficult to catch, he charged off in another direction with no less hope or optimism. His ears were filled with the squealing of his scattering prey, and the sound of his own pounding heart. Nothing existed for him but the rabbits and the running. It spoke to something in him so deep it was almost subconscious, something was running from him, so he must chase.

It was almost a trancelike state and it took his father’s words a few moments to sink in, but the stern tone had clearly helped them through. His dark green eyes turned to Saul, wondering if his dad had actually spoken. The autumn coloured cub sat down, his pink tongue hanging out as his sides heaved and great pants of breath came quickly. So quickly in fact that his frame appeared to almost vibrate. Seeing as the rabbits had stopped run and now once again huddled quivering in the corner, Runi made his way back to listen to his father. He’d not even noticed the new comer until then. He tried to greet Valerian, but just ended up panting at him instead. Drool hung attractively from his mouth as he panted and dripped occasionally onto the floor as he cooled himself down.

”Did….did you see that….I….I nearly had one! If you….move the table….they’ll have nowhere….to hide!”

I tried you once but you won't wake up
Art by Raze!

"Speech," The older she got, the more she adventured away from her family. She paused in midstep of her adventure to play with a butterfly, she liked them. Their wings pretty and their eyes weren't apparent, but she knew they had one because if they didn't how would they know where to land? She questioned everything, unlike most of her litter mates, she was the expressive and adventurous one. While everyone else had their own special thing that made them who they were. She gave a hint of a smile to herself, and let a coo fall over her lips towards the butterfly as she chased it a little bit, then would stop to lie down for a second. Flipping onto her back, she gazed up at the tress, and the skies, thinking about what her other siblings were doing. Maybe she'd run into Val, or Andi, or even Auggie today. She liked playing with Andi she was fun.

A sound echoed over her head and she blinked a bit by the sound of the call someone was gathering pups, and was going to do something with them all. That's what calls were for weren't they? To do something with each other, or otherwise like that? She flipped onto her stomach, panted a few times before allowing her long pink tongue to loll out of her mouth. She smiled to herself, what could this be for? Were they going to learn something today? Maybe hear another story about the gods? Or maybe this was just a meet and greet for the pups in the pack? Well, whatever this meeting was for, Carrie was intent on going to the meeting to see if she knew anyone.

As Carrie gently trailed towards where the sound of the call had come from, she paused to listen to voices. Some were young, but one was older, and somewhat familiar. She blinked a few times at the name of her brother she bounded forwards to get first glance and first leap towards her brother. But having run onto the sight of a larger male, with that golden pelted female, she became shy, her eyes looked from one face to the other. Pausing on the male's face she stared for a few moments with her blue eyes before looking away shyly, then looked at her brother. H-hi. I’m Carrie. She spoke towards the male and female. She then turned reatreating towards the safety of her brother, about as quickly as the white and cream coloured female could manage. Normally, Carrie was the most outgoing female there was but being with these two much older pups made her feel slightly insecure. As she reached her brother, she would look him over and attempt to put a paw on his ear as a sisterly sort of thing, and would whisper to him. Vally, what is we doin’? Hopefully he would enlighten her so that way she didn't interupt Saul.
