Amherst

Decided on Amherst instead. Hope that's okay? :D (Optime form; +300 words)

Though he knew he shouldn't have left New Dawn, Adonis was comfortable in Seer's ability to alert him of danger in his immediate area. He'd invited the avian along on a trip to the nearby human city for their first interaction with the remains of the former civilization. It wasn't often that curiosity got the better of him, but he felt restless at being holed up in the communal den for over a week. Orin had provided an interesting distraction, and he'd half a mind to visit her down south whenever he was healed up, but she was beyond his reach for now. Ksenjia would be disappointed in him, but only if she found out.

Seer cut back and flew over whenever he ranged too far, and Adonis spared him an occasional glance to acknowledge him whenever he did. He was standing on the road just outside of what was once known as "old town", looking out at the city that sprawled out across the landscape about a half-mile off of his current location. For all his bravado and mischievous curiosity, the magnitude of putting himself in an unfamiliar and once, what felt like ages ago, a forbidden situation had him second-guessing his decision. The remnants of human creation were everywhere; the asphalt beneath his feet, the guard rails, the signs and the decrepit, abandoned husks of cars.

The pale raven landed on a road sign and let out a loud call towards the ruins of the city. Adonis tensed, hitching his arm sling closer to his linen-wrapped ribs, and bristled. It was almost as if Seer was teasing him now. He took a few tentative steps forward and place his hand on the rusted metal of a car and, when it didn't bite him, tapped his claws against it. The faint metallic echo unnerved him and he huffed to release the hitched breath in his throat.

Hey Chicka Bum Bum
Do you have teleportesis? Can you hear what I'm thinking right now?

Though Caboose was becoming more established in Vinatta and was starting to become a more familiar presence around the pack, she still didn't know very many canines, and spent much of her time alone. She loved being in the company of others, perhaps more than anything else, but she was used to being on her own due to her largely nomadic lifestyle before reaching these lands, and she made good use of her alone time. She mostly spent her solitary time trying to improve aspects of herself, such as her hunting abilities, her ranching and helping tend to the animals. But she also liked to work on her endurance, as she was doing today. She of course could relax when necessary, but generally she liked to occupy her time doing something, and today she was loping down the crumbled pieces of the human civilization, focusing more on distance than speed. The turf here was loose, and very different to the hard, packed soils of Vinatta and most of the surrounding areas. It offered more resistance to her travel-worn pads, and she felt like she was getting a better work out by doing this, , but she'd always found hard work to be exhilarating, and was so absorbed in what she was doing that Caboose almost didn't notice the male who was standing on the outskirts of the wreckage, tapping his claws on something odd looking. She pushed her paws into the gravel, skidding to a stop and throwing up a small amount of rocks and dirt, though luckily it did not reach the wolf or the bird. "Umm.. Hello there?" she called out to him, tone friendly but also a bit of confusion was mixed into her voice.

(This is a crap post I know. :C I'm sorrrryy~)

It isn't, though! <3 (Optime form; +300 words)

Adonis certainly hadn't expected to come across another canine so close to the ruins of human civilization, but Nova Scotia continued to find ways to surprise him. Seer clicked his beak as he observed Adonis inspect the car, making no move to alert his canine companion to the approaching female. The pale subordinate moved around the car, letting his hand trail over the rusted frame with a sort of academical longing. What had this been used for, he wondered. What purpose could a cage have to a free animal? He didn't have time to delve deep into his investigation, as the skittering of gravel and the soft panting alerted him to the appearance of another.

He whirled on his heel, taking a few steps back and regarding the female with a look of surprise. In retrospect, he knew he didn't really need to worry about those who stopped to ask questions, just the luperci who approached without greeting. But no one could blame him for being a bit jumpy. Adonis lowered his hand (which he had raised in defense) to his side and looked from the female, to the car, and back. "Uh." He spluttered dumbly. "Sorry, hello, I hope I haven't crossed any borders? I know I am near Vinátta, but I have no intentions of trespassing." It all came out in a bit of a blur, but he wanted to get his point across before he offended anyone. At least, he assumed he was a bit too close to Vinátta, but he couldn't be sure.

"I am Adonis, of New Dawn, and I was just exploring." He finished lamely, flattening his ears a tick and looking rather flustered and embarrassed for it.

She paused when the male spoke, reassuring her that he thought since she was here, he was trespassing on Vinatta land. Turning around Caboose surveyed the other, her green colored eyes meeting the yellow orbs of the other as she weighed the possibilities in her mind. The other could be lying, he looked and smelled like that of a pack for a moment she considered just walking off like she had intended to. Yet something caused her to stay, perhaps it was her curiosity or a need to have some social interaction with another of her species, either way the female shook out her fur to rid it of any remaining dust and gravel.

No element of surprise could be gained, meaning both could be a little more at ease when conversing even if the gap was a little awkward. “I'm sorry, one can never be too careful this world is full of unsavory caniness," her voice was kind and conversational. She may have attempted to run away earlier, but now that she had made the commitment of staying she would not be a rude person and not try to be nice and make small talk. Giving a dip of her head in greeting she introduced herself. “I am Caboose of Vinatta. Pleasure. You are not trespassing at all so do not worry about that.”

"Who is your friend there," she asked. And although she was attempting to be friendly, she kept her body language calm and unthreatening, she was never the type to run madcap into a situation. Ever the cautious skeptic she never fully placed her trust in another the instant they made an effort to be kind to her, although she found it easier to relax around another male she was always conscious of the other’s movements as she assumed the other would be as well. The world was indeed a dangerous place, you never knew who you could trust, so many put on a mask hiding the true darkness within their soul until they had gained someone’s deep trust before they striking and toying with their minds and heart. Because of this she in turn tried not to give Adonis any reason to distrust her, she did not want to invoke an attack because she had acted in the wrong way. Her tail waved softly behind her, as she finally calmed from the running.

So concerned was he that he'd committed an offence, that he flattened his ears and tucked his tail further to indicate he was of no threat to her. But he really only succeeded in looking rather comical; like a cougar playing with a lazer pointer (not that Adonis knew what a lazer pointer was). He hitched his wrapped arm closer to his waist and entertained the idea of just turning tail to leave. Though it was neutral lands, he knew it was not beyond the realm of possibility that Vinatta could soon be expanding to encompass the city. The resources here, whatever their source, could be useful to a pack like Palaydrin's.

But more to the present. Adonis breathed a sigh of relief when she reassured him that he wasn't trespassing. He found himself agreeing with her previous statement; the scars on his chest, shoulder, and back were testament to the cruel shadows that lurked beyond the relative safety of Nova Scotia. Relative being that he hadn't encountered anyone dangerous since arriving here. Still, it was enough to go from.

The female, Caboose (strange name but like hell he was going to comment on that), was friendly enough but he could see the caution still lingering in her gaze. She had every right to be nervous of him; he was big, alone, and weird. He didn't have the chance to explain himself further, or smooth over the situation, because she was looking towards Seer who gave a shake of his head at the attention. "O-oh, that is Seer." He replied with the beginnings of a smile. "And well met, Caboose. Palaydrian escorted me through your pack lands a few weeks ago." As if that had any real weight, but maybe Palaydrin was well liked where she was from?

He flattened his hand against the rusted frame of the car and patted it. "I apologize for being awkward. You startled me, is all." Adonis explained with a friendly wave of his tail. The conversation from his end, here on out, was forced and muted until he finally excused himself and returned to New Dawn.
