The woman felt numb. Had been this way since Less found her. Even when her arm was reset and she had to be held down, she had barely cried out, only distantly aware of the searing pain in her shoulder. Her eyes were vacant shells of the glimmering orbs they used to be, and her stare alone was like looking into the endless depths of the sea, the ocean that had claimed her lover. Nothing was real anymore. The sense of feeling simply gone. It was the children and their questions and their swimming eyes that had brought some life back into her, but she could only converse with them for a short time before going into the “bad place” as Tyris called it. This was the haze where mommy barely breathed and seemed to look right through them. They didn’t like this side of her, and Taro was scared, not fully comprehending that his father had died, and she wasn’t well enough to explain. She was vaguely aware of the her viking brothers and sisters, coming in and out of the house over the past few days. They made sure her children were fed, that she ate some, and that her arm was seen to, but as soon as the sun rose in the morning she’d taken off with the kids and hadn’t spoken a word to anyone.

A small part of her was aware that her boys were afraid of her, mostly scared of what she’d do when she’d start mumbling to herself, but they were never in any danger. It was shock. It had remained in her body since the tide had gone out and its poison still coursed through her veins. She hadn’t felt right in Vinatta, in the house she’d built with her lover, and simply needed to get away. Her wandering led her back to New Dawn with her kids in tow. The forest Zalen had assured her she’d always be welcome in. She couldn’t even remember talking to anyone when they’d crossed the border. Maybe she’d simply retraced old memorized steps, but whatever the case, it was now mid-day and the forlorn woman sat outside the communal den. She looked less disheveled than she had been when she was found, the viking women had seen to bathing the fae in her comatose state, but her hair was undone and tousled around her small frame. The boys played together nearby, having fed themselves with the dried jerky she couldn’t remember packing in the leather satchel she’d brought along. Her left arm was in a cloth sling, the dislocated shoulder needed time to heal now that it had been reset, and the swelling near her collarbone would go down in time.

Drin’s eyes were fixed on a familiar tree next to the den. The tree where she and Jiva had first met, where he had seen to her after she had been attacked, where she had learned how to read and write...a tree full of such beautiful memories, and yet no emotion entered her cold eyes. She was empty. Mah’s en dat place Ris...Taro whimpered, allowing his bigger brother to chew on his ear. Yeah, Tyris responded lamely, releasing the fleshy appendage with a sad sigh. Dominance games were no fun anymore when nobody was watching. Mom? Tyris tried tentatively, wiggling off his brother to pad cautiously towards her sitting form. When’s Dad gonna come back? His voice was little more than a whisper, front paws resting on her thigh, he knew what the answer would be, but this was the only way to get her to talk again. Behind him, Taro began to softly cry.

His gentle voice caressed her aching heart, beating feeling back into her limbs. She blinked rapidly a few times, before her eyes refocused, looking down on his hopeful face made her own voice catch. Oh Tyris...he’s not coming back sweetie, mechanically she hunched down to place her frigid lips upon his head. He wishes he could be here, she continued, beckoning with her right hand for Taro to come out of the shadows. The sniffling child obliged, quickly scrambling to her other side so he could clamber onto her lap and bury his teary face into her belly. Shhhh....it’s gonna be okay. Her voice had a distant quality to it, but she helped Tyris into her lap as well and began to softly stroke their bodies. Now it was Taro’s turn to continue the memorized dialogue. Wut...wut happen’d? He choked out, lifting his head away from her creamy fur, and like clockwork, both of the boys mouthed her next words. Luna loved him so much, she had to call him away on a secret quest only he could fulfill. He knew how brave you boys are, so he accepted her mission and had to say goodbye. Her voice was soft, though her mind was elsewhere, yet this was the closest they could get to her former self.

OOC- Thought I'd throw the other family member in too! Feels are everywhere ;_;

Leaf didn't know what to think. This place, New Dawn, he could vaguely remember, but his spirit was with Vinatta and back home. The fox wondered around the den, his brothers tried to play with him every now and then, but he'd playfully push them away and return to his thinking. The orange boy sighed, everything confused him. Why'd Pa go off on an adventure without them? He knew how much Leaf loved going on adventures and quests, so why didn't he bring Leaf with him? Leaf whimpered a little, they'd never finished their story-game in the fields outside their house.

And now Ma was being so quiet, so secretive. The clever little fox knew she was hiding something, but in her fragile state, and for his brothers sakes, he didn't want to ask. Instead he'd play along and constantly remind the quivering twins how much fun their Pa must be having on his quest. Leaf shuffled about on the rocky ground. His missed the soft and grassy ground in Vinatta, and Ivy. Leaf doubted the vixen had followed them here. Leaf didn't even get to tell her where he was going. In his mind, he hoped his friend knew where to find him, or at least followed him to New Dawn.

Tyris and Taro began to ask Ma about Jiva again. Leaf frowned, sniffling quietly to himself, why did they have to remind them all the time? But Leaf couldn't be too angry at the twins, he'd be the same in their place. Leaf took a deep breath and held back any water swelling in his eyes. He trotted over to his Ma and smiled at his brothers. "Yeh, Pa's gone on a quest, an' ah bet he's havin' a bunch of fun wherever it is!" Leaf said enthusiastically, trying his hardest to re-assure his brothers. He sniffed Taro and gave him a playful lick, trying to push their attention back to play.

Hope you don't mind Adonis coming in! We could wrap up our other thread in a few posts if you'd like? And hello Jazzy! :) (+400)

Adonis wasn't completely oblivious to the recent incidents around New Dawn. He was able to pick up the subtle shifts in Seer's mood whenever the raven returned to the woodland just beyond the communal den to roost. There was distress in the flashing eyes of the pale avian earlier that morning; he did not often reveal his moods to Adonis unless something deeply troubled him, so the subordinate knew it was serious. But it had been too early to ask Zalen or Raeka, so he chose to wander out and observe the local deer herd for a few hours to track their movements.

On his return, he was surprised to find Seer shadowing him with a restlessness uncharacteristic to his companion. Adonis twisted an ear forward as the bird coarked and circled back. Feeling uneasy, Adonis flexed his injured arm to test the healing tissue, and broke out into a hurried jog. Something about the common area had Seer on edge, and that instilled a keen twinge of fear in the former princeps. The den site was a well-guarded area; only friends of Zalen were allowed near, with express permission from the Alpha himself. Adonis knew the wolves of New Dawn would lay down their lives for the many pups that lived within the caverns, so it was no surprise that it was a sanctuary reserved for the few who earned it.

As he rounded the bend that led into the clearing, he first spotted three vibrant swatches of autumn-colors, and the familiar profile of Palaydrian. A smile instantly swept across his lips as he spotted the kind female who'd escorted him through Vinatta some weeks prior. But the closer he drew to the group, the clearer it became that this was no happy visit. She was curled around one of the boys, holding him close. And the other two sat near, one with tear-streaked cheeks. His heart rattled weakly against his ribs and he almost stumbled from the shock. The air here was heavy with grief; he could almost taste it on his tongue.

For a moment he wondered if he should leave, but he pressed forward until he was hovering uncertainly on the fringes of the family group. "Palaydrian?" He said softly, as not to startle them. Adonis, for all his height, could not look any less frightening in that moment. He simply looked lost and concerned for the woman and her children. It didn't even immediately occur to him that one of them was most certainly not a wolf.

ooc; could not resist for a number of reasons. :3

IC;

Adonia was feeling a little better about herself since her return from the bear attack a month or so ago. She heard that Drin was coming into New Dawn, she was unaware the circumstance she just knew that the persian patterned woman was here. Adonia wouldn't have been so gleeful to rush up on her if she was aware of how she was feeling. Though, was it anything knew for Adonia to be in the know, so to speak. She was always in her own little world, nothing new about that. Theo though, that was a different story. He was always aware, but never once did he or would he talk to Adonia about it, the female was sensitive and if she knew the goings on of other packs, and her surroundings she would either have sought out those who were hurt, or would have hid herself away. Theo always watched Adonia's back. The golden eagle felt like it was both his job and responsiblity to keep the female safe, and especially after his worst failure he was more alert to her whereabouts.

As Adonia came barreling toward the dens she suddenly felt a heaviness in the air causing her to slow and come to an abrubt stop at the sight of Drin and Leaf. She wanted nothing more than to greet them with joy, but something felt off. Something was clearly wrong. Her troubled stare turned to Theo who landed upon her back, his weight almost a burden upon her lupus form, but she was used to it...at least his claws didn't hurt as much anymore. He merely gave her a stare that said she'd have to learn on her own. A sigh came to her and she gulped her nervousness and slowly walked up. It was at this time she realized a scent, not of Drin, was there.

Adonia rarely ever slept with the group in the dens, she enjoyed the night and being in the fields rather than being in a cave, so for her not to have noticed Adonis was not entirely unfathomable. She knew many unfamiliar scents ran through the packland, but she knew they were pack brothers and sisters, and she knew each one of the scents, just not the bodies that went with them. She was shy enough to not seek them out and get to know them face to face. Also it had been so long since she'd seen Adonis, she forgot how he smelled.

Now she put the face to the scent.

Her ears went back and she acknowledged Adonis with a small, but quite shy smile. Then her attention was fully upon Drin as he asked. She didn't want the golden female to feel pressured so she looked away and acknowledged leaf. Wow, how he had grown. A bright and troubless smile grew on her face as she wagged her tail freely, "Why, hello Leaf! It has been too long little kit...you've grown so much since last I saw you." She wanted nothing more than to come and greet him with licks and nuzzles but was not sure he'd remember her so she remained contained.

OOC-trying to get me post count up for leafie! :)

His playful lick seemed to beckon his brother away, and Leaf spun around his little brother, trying quickly to find games that occupy the little pup. "Ummm, let's play jumpin' rabbits." Leaf said. Jumping rabbits was a game Leaf ad invented, the rules were to imitate a rabbit, and whoever could stay as a rabbit the longest won. Taro giggled, it was a game the twins knew well. Leaf smiled as Taro jumped about like a rabbit, bouncing here and there. Tryis watched the play, but stayed locked to Ma's cuddles. Leaf smiled as his enthusiastic brother bounced about, he couldn't jump as high as Leaf's strong and springy legs could, so Leaf pretended to jump lower, so Taro wouldn't get annoyed.

The two brothers made ticking noises with their tongue, and tried to squeak like a rabbit as they bounced. Though new smells stopped Leaf, and his concentration turned to the two new faces in the den. The male, Leaf didn't recognise at all, but he defiantly remembered the female. And she seemed to remember Leaf. "Heya..." Leaf paused as he searched for a name, "Adoniah!" Leaf smiled and walked, (not bounced!) towards the female. Taro growled and followed him, "Yah not bouncin'! Ah win!" Taro yapped and laughed at his success, he'd never won against the master of the bounce before. Leaf smiled and nibbled at his brother’s scruff. "Yah sure did!" Leaf said. He was glad he'd at least got one of the twins off the topic of Pa. And it looked like there were people around to help his Ma with her sadness.

OOC Sorry that he's such a jerk/ignoring everyone >.< He will eventually acknowledge them, just in protector mode WC→ 554

Being free of the pups was liberating, the great behemoth of a male exiting the den and stretching himself leisurely, front paws first, then his back paws. A large yawn tugged his jaws until they were gaping wide, sharp teeth coming together with a clip as he shook himself and stalked foward. His bright yellow gaze was weary, and he blinked away the drowsy haze that clung to them. He would get a nap later, of that there was no doubt. The pups were exhausting, he could only imagine how Ciara felt with the constant feedings, often waking in the middle of sleep to attend to the hungry babes. They grew more boistrous every day. Already they were babbling, ever excited by the little gurgling and growling noises that came from their tiny muzzles. Augustus, however endeared by their whelpish antics, had had enough for now. He needed to be among adults, but never could have imagined the storm cloud that hung heavy over New Dawn now. The arrival of their guests had escaped him in the confines of their birthing den, but on exiting Augustus caught the scent of several canines, some familiar, some only vaguely, and for once the snowy male embraced the shift.

His joints popped and elongated, paws began to grow, and he bulked up, but went beyond his secui body. His spine straightened and he grew upwards until finally he rested on two paws. Augustus was no less massive than any of his other forms, though he stood hunched, even more so now as he paused, eyes tight and expression contorted into one of mild distress as he readjusted himself. It took a long time for him to make the change, so rare was his Optime form around New Dawn. Breathing deeply he straightened and walked towards the gathering, feeling strangely accustomed to his two legs, uncannily so, although he lacked grace. Augustus was not a creature of much grace to begin with and he lumbered towards the gathered wolves, hairs prickling just a touch as the tension in the air settled around him.

They were gathered around a small family, Adonia, and a newer male Augustus hadn't yet spoken to. He worked his way towards them, neither acknowledging his pack mates or caring to. His posture spoke for itself, a lifted tail and erect set of ears called attention to his position. The Beta male needed little else. Yellow eyes scanned the group until they rested on a familiar woman wheat pelted, and grey pointed. Palaydrian, but rather than address the issue as to why she was here within their borders, Augustus's brows furrowed to see the sadness in her visage. He chose to ignore the bouncing fox for now, which was altogether better for Leaf. Augustus had never been a champion of non-wolves.

Sister? He said quietly in his husky, rumbling voice. She did not look injured, and neither did the pups. There was no scent of blood, no reek of other predators, but still he was on edge. It was his duty to protect those within their borders, and her sudden presence and strangely cloudy demeanor made him feel suddenly defensive of her. He came forward, without hesitation, sinking to all fours in his Optime body as he sniffed her over, one handpaw held aloft.

.:ooc:. Yay thanks for joining all! Anyone is welcome at any time and again, no post order...due to her being so mechanical and whatnot. .:wc:. 800

Palaydrian was thankful Leaf had taken it upon himself to cheer up his brother’s moods. A part of her felt bad for lying about what had happened to her mate, but it was less painful this way for all of them....less disheartening for her as well, to believe in a fairytale instead of the watery grave her husband had most likely arrived at the bottom of a few days previous. A forced smile pulled up the corners of her lips at the fox kit’s words. She loved these boys so much that she’d do anything to snap out of her funk, but right now the mourning period was just too much to handle all alone. Widowed with three children...at least they weren’t all nursing anymore. Soon enough the twins would be able to join Leaf out on his adventures or blaze their own trails within the safety of the pack lands. However, even with their optimistic outlooks on life and never ending curiosity, Drin couldn’t help but feel so pathetically and completely alone.

She half registered Taro slipping from her lap and Tyris snuggling closer, Leaf’s suggestion of play, and Taro enthusiastically joining in. Their forms of autumnal colors bouncing up and down on the den site shelf should’ve put a genuine smile on her face, but the heaviness of her sorrow weighed tragically on her shoulders, making it almost hard to breathe as she mindlessly caressed Tyris. This was her first home in New Dawn. The place she had met Jiva within the first few minutes of becoming one of Zalen’s wolves. She’d been mesmerized by the mohawked tuft of fur between his ears, the memory of it rising in a strawberry blonde hue between both Tyris’s and Taro’s ears now, but most of all, the fae had been entranced by the male’s two toned eyes.

The heterochromia in her own eyes was limited to a splash of sea green in the left amber eye and though her right eye was now polluted with broken blood vessels since Aram’s attack, their two toned eyes had been the first thing she had shyly compared to him. The odd mutation had been something that had bonded them, as silly as it was, it served as the perfect ice breaker. Of course at the time, the fae had no idea she’d be falling so quickly in love with the Takekuro man and by the second new moon, he would feel the same way for her.

She shook her head, realizing Tyris had been gently biting her hand once it had stopped moving and three familiar faces had arrived at the densite. Leaf and Taro had stopped playing and the fox kit had excitedly greeted her old pack sister much to Taro’s chagrin as it seemed Leaf had forfeited their game. Palaydrian blinked, realizing the hulking form before her was none other than Augustus. An optime now, she should’ve deciphered as such when she had last seen his mate, pregnant with the gifts of their union, but that also meant the virus had been shared. Tyris, always the brave one, stood on his fours perched upon her knees, sniffing the air between himself and the scarred male. Augustus, she breathed. The first word she had spoken that wasn’t within her rehearsed repertoire.

Tyris barked happily, turning from the still stranger and headbutting his mother’s stomach affectionately. Ah-guhs...tuhs! He squeaked, scampering off her lap to hop about triumphantly at her side. Hear dat Eaf, Ro?! He cried to his brothers, completely loony over this new development. The disoriented fae blinked again, eyes becoming clearer as they fell upon the man she’d led through Vinatta some days ago, Adonis, her head dipped in greeting, and finally her eyes came to rest on her navy eyed sister, sweet Adonia. A real smile, though small began to form on her lips, though her sadness was still very much so tangible in her glistening eyes. My friends...I, she began, but her maw closed in thought.

Tyris took this opportunity to spare his mother more grief, finally getting ahold of excitement and clambering up into her lap once more. With an exaggerated breath, he solemnly began. Frens...mah dad has gone on a kest an only he ken do et...an...an et es for Una! He said the last bit with some pride, but after a heavy sigh he continued. Ma ses he not comin’ back. So...she es greebin’, he explained, “grieving” being a word he had heard the vikings say when they were in his house.

OOC Okies just throwing a quick post in since there's no posting order, Augustus will most likely dismiss himself in the next post, anyways WC→ 418

No, she was not injured or harmed in any way that he could see. She did not smell of anything foreign, or dangerous, so Augustus was puzzled. She was not ailed by anything physical, and he was about to withdraw a little when he noticed a small nose lifted towards him, sniffing at his leaned in face. His yellow gaze lowered to the boy as if he'd only just noticed him there in his mother's lap, and he backed away, still on all fours. His black-rimmed ears were held forward and he watched them warily. She spoke his name, but said little else other than acknowledge the others. His yellow gaze darted to the male briefly, ears catching his name. Good, he wouldn't need an introduction. His gaze was drawn again to the pup as he spoke his name, seemingly pleased with himself. Augustus didn't turn his nose up at the boy, strangely enough. His children would be this age one day, and the brute desperately needed to learn how to be patient, especially with the young. In the place of a scowl he smiled however wryly.

When she spoke again, her words did not come forth easily. Her gaze was moist and shimmering with unshed tears, Augustus inwardly cringing as he backed to sit on his rump like an extremely overgrown and oddly proportioned lupus. She was spared the pain of the telling as one of her rustic pelted boys perked up and spoke for her. The behemoth watched as he did, straining his ears forward. Jive was gone? At least, that was what he gathered. The crease in his brows deepened. Una..? He searched his mind for a connection, wait...Did the boy mean Luna? He glanced at Palaydrian with apprehension, still processing for a moment. Jiva's...gone? He said quietly after a moment of deep thought. The boy continued to say that he wasn't coming back. Dead. Jiva was dead? Augustus trained his yellow gaze on the ground for a moment, but only a mere moment, before he gazed again to Palaydrians face. That had to be it. How? The brute never had a great liking for the rust pelted wolfdog, but he was young, younger than himself, anyways. Males his age did not simply die.

The northern male wasn't an emotional creature, or terribly empathetic so he did not acknowlege how hard it must be for her to have to relive it, to retell it, nor did he think of the pup's sensitivity to such knowledge.

Adonis is out for a round while he gets some things. (+300)

A few more wolves trickled in to see what the disruption was about, and Adonis moved away to the fringes when the group became too dense. He sensed that he didn't quite belong here; he was mostly a stranger to Palaydrian, and though he wanted desperately to help, he wouldn't be of as much use as those she was familiar with. Adonia moved past him, a whisper on the wind, and he watched her with a keen eye until another arrival demanded his attention. The massive, hulking brute carried himself with the weight of a leader, and Adonis obliged his rank and his space by taking another step back. His ears flattened and his tail went limp between his ankles as he observed from a distance.

The pale subordinate settled down somewhere on the edges of the group, not wanting to be reprimanded for being too close. The last time he was at a gathering like this, emotions ran high, and he'd found himself suddenly ostracized from any positive social interaction. Needless to say, he was wary; torn between wanting to lend his own words of consolidation, and simply being there should one of them require his assistance.

He turned his eyes away from Palaydrian to her children as they spoke, revealing the true nature of her sorrows. A shard of ice went through him like a finely edged dagger, and he quickly hid the expression of abject horror that alighted across his face by turning away to face the woods. Adonis crossed his arms, and uncrossed them, before shuffling to balance on hands and feet. He lent Palaydrin a long look, hoping to convey the sincerity in his concern for her, before moving wordlessly towards the communal den. Inside his own chosen hovel he'd stashed a few thick hides and some bones to give as gifts to the new parents. But he figured, in this moment, maybe her children needed them more.

Adonia was happy that leaf remembered her, the mere sound of hearing the fox say her name made Adonia lunge forward and hug the little male with her muzzle and chest pressed to him. The embrace she gave Leaf was short lived as she she heard Palaydrin speak. Something was really eating at the siamese woman. Ears shot forward as her pup spoke. Spoke of the journey that their father took, but something said it wasn't a journey and if it was, the journey was over...but Drin didn't want to tell the pups the full truth. Augustus was not happy and he seemed like he wanted to push the truth out of the woman. Adonia stepped from Leaf and then forward to Drin, "The wound...it's still fresh? You need time..and you need to be around friends...and we are here for you when you're ready..." Her eyes looked to her softly and with understanding. She glanced back to Adonis knowing what it was like to be an outsider, and it seemed that was how he felt right now. She smiled softly, "..How do you know Drin?" She asked kindly, "I'm sure however, you know her she is happy to see you here...just I'm glad to see you.."
