temeraire
go harder, live faster, fight to the end

He'd left the Court behind again. Although he would probably note that this time, he hadn't left because of an argument. This time, he'd informed Lena of his departure and made sure there was enough food for his intended absence. The thoughts of Helexia's youth and obvious weakness had been playing on his mind. He hadn't ridden properly since he'd been out with Alder on the grey and while he didn't think his ability was worsening, it was something he knew he was weak on. He couldn't be a Knight if he wasn't strong on horseback and he intended to rectify that. He could have claimed the grey he'd ridden; Alder had said that nobody owned him. But he'd heard about Freetown and knew there were horses out there. He wanted his own horse, not one that had been ridden by so many. And there was also the added benefit of visiting home again.

His leisurely way up here was calm and quiet, which wasn't necessarily a good thing for Temeraire. While he hadn't recognised the pattern yet, it could be noted that calm and quiet led to misdemeanour's such as the gypsy girl that had caused such anguish between him and Lena. But he was travelling, out on the road with his bag of wares that he intended to trade up to get a horse. The dampwoods were skirted around; he had no desire to see the black and white female again or her tawny mate. His leg was healed properly now, but a silvery scar was just about visible on the back of his thigh. He didn't need to look back at it to feel it, the skin around it was still a little tight, a remnant left over from the infection that had taken a week or so to heal.

Familiar landscapes soothed him and before long, the sprawling greyness that was Amherst rose up to meet him. He'd stay a day or two at home, catch up on what everyone was doing before moving on to Freetown. Moving a little further north, he came to a natural stop by a pile of rubble that may or may not have been a house at one point. Tipping his head back, the Stormbringer loosed a howl for his family to come and meet him and catch up for a while.

(471) Weird uncle is weird! <3

Ascher sat with his legs hanging one either side of a thick branch, a thin book clasped in his hands. More relaxed up in the tree than he usually appeared on the ground, the three year old was deep into the story and his dark nose was almost as deep into the pages the words were written on. Luckily Ascher had naturally good balance, so when the howl snapped him out of the world being spun in his head and made his torso twist around instinctively, he was able to right himself instead of falling. He had to put out a hand, though, and the book did fall victim to the sudden sound. Ascher sighed and swung his legs around, preparing to climb down and fetch it before he actually listened, dark brown ears twitching, to the call.

The voice wasn't familiar but it was still faintly recognisable somehow, and it was speaking to the Stormbringer clan. Ascher was, of course, included in that group, but this wasn't anyone he had met before and he thought he had now met everyone – except Saul's eldest sons. Ascher had enjoyed meeting both Solieri and Runi, and had been glad to be present for Niernan's pair's Ausa Vatni festivities, yet he was torn. Perhaps neither nephew would appreciate the presence of their slightly odd uncle if they were visiting. Asch certainly had a knack for taking things from zero to awkward in the span of a sentence.

Hopping down from the tree and managing a steady landing, Ascher bent over to retrieve his book, brushing off a small sprinkling of earth and tucking it up against his wrist. His head turned toward Jordheim and the origin of the howl, and a huff of resignation was sent into the breeze. Ascher was shy, but not antisocial; he liked to be involved in family gatherings, even the ones where Bran confiscated his books in favour of beer; he was a curious beast too, and curiousity usually got the better of him, sometimes to his dismay.

Moving at a brisk pace despite his hesitance, the copper-beige male didn't slow until he saw the figure: a darkly coloured male with lighter points and very little of Saul about his colouring, although he had eyes of a brighter blue than Ascher's own. He was plainly too old to be Runi and Soli's brother, so that made him -

“Temeraire?” Ascher blurted, squinting slightly at the young man who had to be his eldest nephew. “I'm Ascher.” He offered a small and slightly embarrassed smile but found he didn't know what else to say. The older, lighter male drew in a breath, testing the air to see if any of their other relatives would come and save him from the other thing he was drawing: a complete blank.

Niernan Stormbringer
Why can't the moon stay full forever? Right now she's got nothing on her mind.

That howl. He recognised the voice; it was like a blow to the head and he stood stunned for a moment. It hadn't been too long ago that Teme had visited his family in Vinátta, he remembered meeting with the dark coloured boy and being impressed with his physical improvement. But then Niernan was always happy to see his family, and especially the nephew that he had come to love so much. He rushed from the stables, abandoning the unnamed geldings tack and allowing the bridle to slip to the floor, though he didn't notice because he was already out the doors and sprinting through the underbrush of the woodlands. He allowed his lips to curve up into a grin as he ran, laughter barking from his maw as his paws pounded towards the borders. He was so happy he could hardly contain it.

Before long the dark furred boy came into view, he briefly registered Ascher's presence, the copper toned male viewed in his peripheral vision as he launched himself at Temeraire with a cry of joy "Teme!" He shouted as he flew through the air, arms outstretched in his mad attempt to wrap the boy in a boisterous hug. He knew he would probably fly directly past his nephew, and he would likely end up in the dirt, but he would giggle like they had done many a time before and they would put it down to Niernan being a bit of an idiot. He didn't really care, he was just elated to see his nephew safe and sound, and glad that he had come to visit as it meant that he still thought about them.

The last few days had been so exciting for the growing Stormbringer girl that at first she didn't know how to process it all. She'd had such a nice time at the celebration of Vinátta's birthday and she'd learnt of Shiloh's pregnancy along with most of the rest of the pack. In reality, Sóli didn't really understand how it happened, but her father had briefly explained that in a few weeks, she would have new cousins to play with. She hadn't noticed her fathers distinctly awkward and rushed explanation; the realisation that there would be new life in Vinátta had the girl bouncing off the walls. She'd gone exploring with Val and they'd found an old shack out in the forests. It had been scary, but exhilarating at the same time and Sóli had returned home that night with her heart still pounding but a massive grin on her lips. Plus, Shiloh was making a dress for her and the excitement was doing wonders to alleviate her melancholy that had generally dragged her down.

With a final huff of breath, the golden child swept the last bits of dirt out of the front door with the makeshift broom and nodded her head, as if she'd defeated some kind of dust monster. Since her mothers departure (and the dark days she didn't like to think about where her father seemed not to move at all from his nest of furs in the living area) Sóli had taken over many of the more domestic chores. She relished the jobs she was given, keeping the house clean when Rúni thought it funny to tramp through the house in muddy paws. She'd quickly learnt a few tips and tricks that made her life easier, like allowing the mud to try before brushing it away; dirt cleaned up much easier than mud it seemed. As she paused in the open doorway however, a low baritone howl rose from the borders, the voice distinctively familiar to the girl.

Temeraire had visited a while ago and Sóli had loved spending time with him. To her, he was always a little aloof; more than happy to hang out or something but never really involved like many other members of the pack. He smelt different now and didn't seem to want to spend much time with her, but that didn't mean he could get away without seeing her. Forgetting Shiloh's request that she not leave the house 'naked' the girl took off, shutting the door behind her and running out towards the borders. It seemed she wasn't the only one who responded, because as she approached her favourite uncles voice caught her perked golden ears and blue eyes caught sight of the three males gathered. Her stomach fluttered as she caught sight of Ascher, a big grin plastered on her lips as she darted up, much smaller than all gathered to wrap her arms around her brother and uncle. "Tem! I missed you." She offered, pressing her face into the shadowy males lower chest, head height for her.

temeraire
go harder, live faster, fight to the end

A deep breath of air was taken before Temeraire leant back against one of the larger rocks in the rubble of an old building. He would stay in Vinátta a day or two, catch up with his family and the pack and make sure that everything was okay before moving on towards Freetown. With any luck, he'd be able to drop in on his way back as well, hopefully with a new horse in tow. He hoped to improve his riding skill, since he knew it was rusty and rudimentary at best and eventually learn to use his bow from the back of the horse. It would take a long time for him to build up his balancing skills and confidence in the horse, whatever he found in Freetown. The scent of a male caused the dark Stormbringer boy to glance up, expecting one of his Uncles. Blue eyes narrowed just slightly as he watched the chocolate man approach, sure he didn't know who it was. But he smelled like Stormbringer, so perhaps this was an Uncle of some sort.

As the male stopped an spoke his name, the dark male felt a frown tug his lips, before he was properly introduced. Uncle Ascher? His father had told him all about the family that he knew of, since Saul had never been to the Solbjorg and could only mention those he actually knew. But Temeraire didn't think he'd ever meet his Uncles. Although saying that, Aunt Shiloh was here, so why not his fathers younger brother. Before he had the chance to respond however, a big dark figure shot towards him and his frown turned immediately into a wide and indulgent grin. Swiftly bracing his legs, Tem caught his Uncle Niernan's body in a tight bear hug. Now that they were of roughly equal height, it was easier to wrestle with him. "Uncle Nier!" He exclaimed against his relatives dark fur.

It seemed many had decided to respond to his call as he looked up, arm automatically opening for his younger sister. Blue eyes were wide however as he took in her two legged form, the loose curls around her shoulders and the developing body. Sólieri was growing up, too fast for his liking. Still, he took comfort in her short stature, her head butting into the middle of his chest as she greeted him. "Sóli! Look at you, you're so big." It was times like these that Temeraire allowed himself to simply enjoy the company of others. Often he felt like he was always playing a game, trying to stay ahead of his lies and trying to stay in Lena's good book. But seeing his family always elicited a purely joyous response from him and he squeezed his arms tighter around both Uncle and sister. "How are you guys? Whats been going on since I last saw you?" He leaned back, before realising he'd forgotten about the mystery uncle. "Uncle Ascher... uh, hi?" He chuckled, unsure of what to say to the unknown male.

ON FIRE WITHIN

POSTED: Wed May 29, 2013 12:45 am

Ascher was expecting the tide of family to roll in, but he had thought his awkward shyness might dissipate as other members of the Stormbringer family showed their faces. Niernan was first, the Irish Viking whom Asch was now least acquainted with of all his family, what with the dark male's duties to his young children. Asch offered a grin as the shape of his cousin flew past to hug Temeraire. Ascher had expected eagerness from his more outgoing relatives as well, but Soli's enthusiastic entrance and momentum were nearly enough to knock him off his feet.

The copper toned male chuckled under his breath, waving a hand at his young niece as she too flashed past, although he doubted whether she could see it as she was wrapped in a tight embrace with Niernan and her older brother. Ascher waited, quiet and patient, until the zealous greetings by the closer family members were complete, a smile fixed to his face. Inside, however, he was worrying that Temeraire would be another wolf to add to the list of those who he seemed to confuse more often than not.

In an effort to be confident, Ascher took a step forward as the trio disentangled from eachother. His smile widened as his presence was remembered and he responded to Temeraire's awkward “hi” with an equally awkward bob of his head, clasping his hands behind his back as he stood behind Soli. “Hello. It's a pleasure to meet you, nephew.” Lucid blue eyes flickered to Niernan and the top of Soli's head. Ascher's brain seemed to gradually be switching off – ironically, he'd rarely felt more awkward - and he was sorely tempted to smack himself on the head, although the organ between his ears had just enough juice left to tell him that that would make him look even odder.

Niernan Stormbringer
Why can't the moon stay full forever? Right now she's got nothing on her mind.

Teme braced himself for the impact and Niernan slammed bodily into him, being wrapped up in strong arms. They wrestled playfully, the bear hug between them squeezing the breath out of Niernan. He laughed happily, a grin spread wide across his face, elated to see his nephew and glad he wasn't on his butt in the dirt. Nier glanced around as Teme opened his arms for another to join the familial embrace, spotting Sóli he detached one arm from the boy and helped draw the sunshine girl into the hug. He felt his heart flutter happily in his chest; it was good to have such a warm and loving family. He extracted himself from the hug and stood back, looking his nephew over, allowing the boy to greet his sister and Uncle properly.

Niernan rolled his eyes as Ascher displayed just how awkward he could be. "Odins beard! Ascher, shake his hand or something. You're family. No need to be so awkward." He turned his gaze to Teme, "You too Tem. You weren't like this when you first met me and Bran." He smiled winningly, hoping that his blunt words wouldn't make the meeting more awkward. He did have a horrible habit of saying the wrong things around his family, especially those he was close to.
