- Ascher Stormbringer - 12-10-2010 [html] OOC: Word Count: 501 IC: "Baby? I'm not a baby anymore, Saulie! Ascher began to stomp his foot in frustration at his brother's dismissive remark, but caught himself and held his leg up in the air, thinking that looking like an idiot would be better than acting a child. But Saul had already laughed off his previous comment, which put the littlest Stormbringer at ease. Seeing his brothers dart across the beach - albeit rather clumsily - reminded the young wolf to do the same. He had very little trouble keeping his balance, but once his feet touched water Ascher stopped cold. He peered at Saul, nearly across the shallow expanse of water that led to their picnic island location, and at Gideon sloshing back and forth not far behind. It was all fun and games for them, but ... ... It was cold water. Ascher paced from one foot to another before he jumped into the fearfully cold stuff. He was glad that he had not given himself the time to think about what he was doing because otherwise he would have never gotten into such awful stuff. Water was meant to be drank, not swam in. It was cold, it was dark, and it was unfamiliar. If wolves were meant to swim, they ought to have scales, like fish. Then Ascher would not have thought twice about flinging his arms forwards in imitation of his brothers, and kicking his legs like he was trying to jump out of the cold liquid. It was really difficult, and Ascher felt himself tiring out before he was halfway across. Probably because his swimming did not look anything like his brothers' more streamlined movements. There was a lot of splashing on Ascher's part, and he submerged himself more than once. More than twice, actually. "How did," splash, "You guys," splash, glug, "Do this? Ascher felt like he was trying to accomplish an impossible task. It was definitely getting the best of him, and he was getting scared about it. He started flailing around near the shore of the island, which also made the unfortunate wolf angry: Why did he have to get so close to finishing his swim and then fail right at the end? He was not about to drown when both of his brothers had made it across the water without trouble. Growling, Ascher started pushing the water away from him and kicking his legs in the closest approximation of a fish that he could, and he moved forward enough for his legs to hit sand and rocks. That got a whoop of success from the wolf, and after he made it out of the water (shivering now) he thought And I didn't even need their help, ha! Maybe Ascher was growing up, finally. He turned around to look at the water again and shivered. Well, maybe a little bit of growing up, but he was not about to get back in that water for a little while. Ascher looked hungrily at Saul, "What's for lunch, I'm starving!" Although he had never actually swam in the ocean before and usually stuck to the freshwater of the spring of the lake, it was easy to see that Saul was at home in the water. A loud chuckle was given as Gideon offered to make a fire when they landed on the shore and a splash of water was shoved his way. Green eyes narrowed towards his brothers identical orbs and he flashed his teeth playfully. Saul couldn't lash back at Gideon- he still had the basket balanced carefully on his head and he didnt want to jeapordise their food. It took about ten minutes for the timber wolf to reach the shore and as his hands scraped the rocks on the shore he stood, confident that his feet would touch the shore. Hands came up to grasp the basket and he pulled himself up onto the shore. "A fire would be great Giddy! Just dont burn yourself!" He tried to turn his precautionary warning into a joke, tail flashing back and forward and sending a spray of water over the beach. Placing the basket a little way away he spent a moment shaking his body thoroughly to get rid of the water. He was damp when he had finished but no longer dripping. Green eyes however had spotted Ascher, unsure on the other shore. Concern for his youngest brother took over him and Saul was tempted to go over and get him. But he knew he needed to let his little brother fend for himself and grow up a little. He seemed to be struggling when he finally managed to get in the water and Saul watched like a nervous mother as he brother struggled to make the crossing. His panted question made Saul smile softly and he called out to his brother. "A little bit of exercise in the mornings never did no harm... as we have just proved!" He smiled and watched as his brother appeared to get the hang of swimming. Ascher appeared to get his rhythm and soon enough he had dragged himself up onto the shore. Saul reached down and clapped his brother on the back, proud of him for facing something he wasnt totally sure of before. However, Saul wondered if Ascher would be okay getting back to the mainland. They would jump that hurdle when they had to. Sun shone down on his back and Saul lapped up the light. Ascher asked him a question and Saul gave a grin. Setting down the basket he took out three medium rabbits that needed skinning, four apples, two bundles of nuts that he had collected a while ago. He dug out two oranges that he had found around the house and they were still fresh. There were a few strips of dried deer meat that he had also found. That made their picnic. Glancing up at his brother he grinned softly. "You'll be fine in a minute! Would you like to skin this rabbit while I do one of the others? We could roast them over Giddy's roaring fire!" He said, reaching down and tossing Ascher one of the rabbits while he set about slicing the skin and pulling it over the rabbits head like a jumper. It was easy to do once you knew how and Saul was done with the first one before too long. Now for the other one. Once he had skinned the two of his he found a large stick and skewered both rabbits on the stick. Looking up at Ascher expectantly, Saul waited for the third rabbit so he could add it to the pole to roast. Now he only needed to fire and they would be away. word count;; 641 - Gideon Stormbringer - 12-16-2010 [html]

Although his brother took a more clumsy approach to the rabbit and ended up ripping a few chunks of the rabbits actual muscle, in the end it looked pretty much the same as Sauls. A congratulatory smile came from the eldest Stormbringer child and he reached over to clap his brother on the shoulder. Ascher spoke and Saul laughed softly, nodding his head at his brothers suggestion. Perhaps it wouldnt be a bad idea to teach Ascher a few things about hunting and eating his meal. Maybe no one had taught the youngest boy how to do these things. "Of course I'll teach you. Not today though- today is for fun!" He smiled before his gaze was drawn to the fire Gideon was building. Saul himself didnt know how to make a fire and he was fascinated by what Gideon was doing. Saul was an exceptionally fast learner and from what his brother was doing Saul felt he now had a pretty good understanding of what to do. It was a slow starting fire, a few smoking strands at one point to tell that it was still alive. But it was smoking and in no time at all the yellow flames were flickering through. Now that all three skinned rabbits were on the spike Saul placed them over the flames, eager eyes watching all the while. Ears perked as Ascher thanked Gideon for the fire. Saul watched as Ascher wandered off, searching for something the timber male didnt know what. Saul began to slowly turn the hares on the spike, shaking his hand every few moments when it got too hot. It didnt take long for Ascher to return and a familiar scent came with him. Saul had been lost in the early summer when the herb was most active. He had come across it many times on his travels and knew that whilst bitter at first it had a lovely after taste. Saul was surprised when Ascher threw it onto one of the rabbits. An interesting thing to do, most definately. "I came across the herb back in the summer but I have no name for it. What a nice idea to add it to the meal..." He said warmly, green eyes melting softly as he looked at his brother. Maybe one day Ascher would persue a career in cooking, discovering new tastes for the wolves of Dahlia. Whatever his brother wanted to do was his perogative but putting herbs with the food was a very good idea. Saul glanced at Gideon once more and then to the basket that was closer to the dark male than himself. "Giddy, can you chuck me an apple please?" He asked, wanting to taste the sweetness of the fruit once more. He had found a few apples around Flanders Field a few days ago and had decided to bring them along. word count;; 495 - Gideon Stormbringer - 01-03-2011 [html] wc: 340

It felt good to be in this two legged form, having arms and hands that could pick things up. As the eldest Stormbringer settled beside his two younger brothers a proud smile rested on his lips. His father didnt appear to want to be around them and Saul hadnt quite accepted this yet. But he was as proud as any father would be of his brood. They had all turned out well, despite their rocky start in life. Gideon had found his calling in life- looking after orphaned children. And Ascher, despite his shyness had become polite and well mannered. Saul would always be excitable and driven to achieve, but in future months he would become a little more reserved and calm around those he didnt know. Well, at least none of them had gone on a murdering rampage yet. That sure was an achievement. The young man listened intently to what Gideon was saying and a smile lit his eyes up. Perhaps Saul could learn to build a fire like his brother did. He would have taken a trip to Halifax with them even if it didnt benefit him and Saul gave an eager nod before adding; "I'd like a few of those rocks, if you were to find some. Must be real nice to know you can always build a fire to keep you warm." The young man commented with a smile on his lips. Eyes were drawn to the roasting rabbits and he darted his hand out to turn to stick they were skewered on. Though raw meat was good, sometimes the cooked smokiness of roasted rabbit was a nice change. The darkest Stormbringer began to speak again and he smiled once more. However, before he had chance to speak Ascher popped up and cut him short. What his little brother was saying made him pause though. Since he had been stranded on his own Saul had taken an interest in herbs and their healing ability. He had known that he wanted to be a healer for a long time. But his little brother apparently wanted to share his dream and Saul didnt know what to think about it. On one hand he wanted his brother to aspire to be something, but in Saul's mind it was his dream. Then again, why couldnt they both be healers? It didnt really make sense for them both to follow that path, but what else could he do. Applying a small amount of humour to his smile Saul looked up. "When I was a loner, herbs helped me survive when I couldn't hunt. I learned a lot about them and what they can do and I wanted to persue a career in healing. But since Ascher here wants to do the same thing, I'm not so sure anymore." He offered to his brothers. He didnt want Ascher to feel bad so he offered him a small pat on his back before he cast a glance back towards the rabbits. Now nicely brown and obviously cooked Saul darted a hand forward and knocked the rabbits from their makeshift perch. Catching the hot stick Saul lay the rabbit on the cloth he had taken for their picnic. Taking one for himself Saul gestured that his brothers should help themselves as well. word count;; 564 - Gideon Stormbringer - 01-06-2011 [html] Want to end this soon? :] wc: 200 It was interesting to him that his brothers had each thought of a similar thing that they wanted to do with themselves. They had their regular pack duties, yes, but in this pack they were allowed to have co-ranks as well. Gideon hadn’t thought of what kind of a co-rank he might want to have, being so busy with little Melee and Range, but maybe now was the time to think about it. Maybe some day he would be able to serve the pack in more than one way...he just had to find the time to be able to do it.

If there was one thing the young Stormbringer male was not, it certainly wasn't selfish. He wanted the best for all his family and if that meant he had to give up something he was interested in for them, he would do it without hesitation. If Ascher wanted to become a doctor and heal people, Saul had no right in telling him he shouldnt. And in fact, he would never dream of telling his brother what and what not to do. He felt Gideon's gaze on him before he could amend his expression and knew that Ascher had seen it to. The damage had been done and there was really nothing he could do about it. Allowing his expression to remain neutral once more he allowed ears to catch Gideon's words. "Good idea Giddy" Saul murmered feeling certainly ashamed for himself. He had no right in upsetting his brother, especially since they hadnt been back in Dahlia for long. He didnt want to cause a rift between them, because they had already spent too long apart from his brothers. He was stung with the realisation that they were still missing a family member- Shiloh was still missing and there was nothing any of them were doing about it. Of course, they couldnt exactly go running around in the waste-lands looking for a sister who might be safe already. Fingers gripped onto the rabbit as he plucked a few stripes of meat away listening to Gideon's thoughts on the matter. "I cant imagine myself ever having puppies... BUt I'd like them one day." He admitted with a laugh. He hadnt really thought a lot about having children of his own. He'd always thought Gideon was a little crazy for taking in the two wraiths but now he could see why. If he'd been in Gideon's situation he would have done exactly the same thing. And now Range and Melee were here and they looked to Gideon for everything. It scared the young boy to think for a moment that at some point in the future there would be a few little faces looking up at him with complete faith and trust that he would provide for them. Saul had a lot of growing up to do before then he knew and therefore he pushed the images out of his mind. Ascher had begun to speak and Saul could hear the hints of sadness in his voice that were hard to hear. "Lets not be too hasty in deciding on our life right this second. I may change my mind next week. How about we make a promise to each other to go with whatever our heart desires, regardless of what any one else is doing? It sounds selfish, but we should be able to do what we want without fear of upsetting our brothers. So when we decide what we want to do... we should just do it." Saul said with a small smile towards Ascher. He had been valiant in giving up his dream, but he didnt have to. None of them really had to give anything up at this stage. They were just half-grown boys, wondering what else was out there. He gave a chuckle at Ascher's words and his tail flickered behind him. Tearing more strips off the rabbit in his hands Saul devoured it quickly. Before too long a pile of bones lay on his lap. He sucked the once for good luck before tucking them in a pile by his leg. He looked at his brother, eating the meal he had provided by the fire Gideon had supplied. His heart swelled with pride and love for his brothers and in this moment he could have burst with the sunshine that radiate from him. They were going to be okay, the Stormbringer brothers. They had each other and they had dreams. That was all they really needed in life. word count;; 668 |
