- Ciel - 08-12-2010
OOC here! Hungry.... so hungry! No matter where the bear's travels took him: across a desolate, dusty desert, or a large, sprawling field of flowers and herbs, he found that there was always one constant in his life. Hunger. Well, there was loneliness too, but being a solitary animal, he found that he only missed his mother and his brother's limited time together every once in a while, yet he was almost always hungry to some degree. Though he'd faced his fears and had wandered into the Crimson Dreams packlands to be accepted for the first time with kindness instead of fangs and feral growls, he found that such a life of security was not so easily slipped into. He found the calm and tranquility unsettling, and had set out into these unclaimed lands at a steady gallop to clear his head. After only a short time he'd reached this decadent forest full of the rich scents of earth, trees, and a large body of water not too far away. He rolled around in the pine carpet and slumbered happily in the shade of a rather large tree, sleeping only for an hour or two before his furiously roaring stomach caused him to jolt awake, hopping to his feet, glancing to and fro for a threat. Once the cobwebs of sleep fell away, he relaxed his muscles and sighed sadly. "Whelp, guess I'd better go try to fish." he grumbled to himself as he lumbered off in the direction of the smell of water. Though he was in fact a bear, and many things came instinctively, fishing is an experience that is passed down from mother to cub, and he was raised in such a way that his mother taught him how to fell a deer, and how to catch a rabbit if desperate, but not how to fish. He'd tried it himself a few times, but the things were too slippery and fast for him to try to scoop out with his paw, and he'd tried to bite them, but he always missed. As the scent of water grew stronger, he paused and perked his ears as he made note of a low humming sound. It felt somehow familiar and nostalgic, but he couldn't quite place the origin. Wary of a sound he didn't recognize, he proceeded with caution, hoping it would simply go away, but found with despair that the humming grew louder as he approached the water. It wasn't until he'd gotten close enough to the lake that he could spot it up ahead that he noticed the source of the buzzing cacophony that had been filling him with fear. An old, rotted tree, had a rather large hole in the middle of it, from which spewed little buzzing insects, going to and fro in such quantity that their buzzing was very loud. At seeing this, Ciel became very excited, his maw opening and hanging as he bounced a little on his front paws. Though he'd never before seen an active beehive, they had once come across an abandoned one before, which was empty- much to mama's frustration- but she had told them about the little buzzing insects that worked hard day and night to make honey, which fed their big fat mother, and their little babies. Apparently the things they held dear were also the most tasty- the mother and babies were very good protein, and the honey was really sweet and tasty! She'd shown them both how to break in with her paws, and he'd watched well. He remembered her saying more, but as to what she actually SAID, he couldn't remember. He'd been a bouncing little cub, barely able to stay still for more than a few minutes. Deciding then and there to enjoy the tasty bees for Mama's sake, Ciel forged forward, and stood up on his hind legs in front of the hive, blocking the incoming bees from their point of entry. Eagerly, he stuck his paw in, dug his claws into the rotted wood, and pulled away at it with fearsome force. It splintered, and fell away to the ground, ' revealing a deeper hole, and a whole lot of buzzing insects, but also a golden liquid, which began to drip out of the opening he created. He licked at it eagerly, and almost fell on his back with pleasure. It was so good! Meanwhile, the little flying insects buzzed angrily around him, pouring out of the massive hole and bouncing off of his big furry body. He paid them no heed and continued to lick at the dripping honey, and they began to sting at him, but his rough hide and thick fur made it of little consequence to him. When the honey was all done dripping, however, he knew that it was time to dig deeper, and search for those tasty babies as well! Without thinking, he stuck his big nose into the deep hole eagerly, and quickly let out a cry of anguish as he felt the insects cover his muzzle and sting him right in his sensitive nose! He gave a roar of pair and fear, pulling away and trying to scrape the things off with a frightened paw. Somehow sensing his weakness, the bees seemed only to swarm more around his face, and he began to flee blindly in the direction of the lake, giving frequent moans of fear, and shakings of his head, despite what little good it did him, for the soldiers knew nothing of mercy- only of anger and revenge. He continued his hapless stumblings until he mercifully fell face first into the crystal blue lake. The buzzing insects apparently could not swim, and those stuck to him fell away, writhing and kicking pitifully. Those that had been in pursuit buzzed above him in the air, and he quickly swam away from the terrible, stinging little monsters! His nose, his poor nose! It was like a miniature black porcupine, which was quickly growing in size. Eventually, he surfaced out of necessity, and found that thankfully there were no more angry insects, ready to continue tormenting him! Paddling over to the bank, he ignored the shimmery fish fleeing his large, kicking paws, and pulled his miserable self onto solid ground, crying miserably as he tried to gingerly scrape at his nose with a claw, and found it only made him hurt worse. .ciel .ooc {font-style:italic; } .ciel p {padding:0px 20px 5px 20px; margin:0px; text-indent:35px;} .ciel b {color:#2F3E4C; letter-spacing:.8px;} .ciel {background-color:#B5C2CE; background-image:url(http://sleepyglow.net/souls/gifts/2010may/ciel.png); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; padding:271px 0px 10px 0px; border:1px solid #D2E2F3; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; color:#0F1F2F; letter-spacing:.4px; word-spacing:2px; line-height:13px; width:400px; text-align:justify; } .ciel-border {width:402px; border:1px solid #000000; margin:0 auto; } .ciel .separator{width:350px; border-bottom:1px dotted #2A3D50; margin:0 auto 5px auto;} </style>
- Caillen Winters - 08-12-2010
table © Alaine ooc: yeyyy!
- Ciel - 08-12-2010
Hurray! I'm so happy Ciel's going to make a friend! Eventually... I hope. XD Sorry about the crappy quality and the long long wait, I all of a a sudden got very sleepy and started to nod off at the end of the post. -_- Ciel's pitiful crying grow louder as his nose began to hurt even more, the tiny stingers feeling as if they were needling their way even deeper into his nose, which was now almost twice the normal size, the tears from his eyes unseen as he was already completely drenched with lake water. His cries cut short, however, when a small sound from in front of him made him look away from his swollen nose and notice for the first time the presence of the strange creature in front of him, who was even more strangely covered. Immediately he backpedaled a few steps in surprise- his swollen nose was nearly useless, but the creature didn't look like it was a wolf, but he was still wary of it. After all, it had similar features to a wolf- perhaps it was like them, but worse. More violent, more likely to attack? He wasn't on Crimson Dreams territory, so he would be on his own for protection. The creature was very tall- taller than him- but in no way was it anywhere near as large or muscular. Getting over his initial shock, he saw it pull its lips up to reveal its teeth, and realized that if he didn't make his status as a predator clear, he would be assumed prey. Raising himself to his full 6 feet, he sized up his opponent, which was still taller than him. "I don't know what you are, but you'd better not come any closer." he snarled angrily. Had it been a different day, he might have simply been curious as to the nature of this animal that appeared similar to a wolf, yet walked on its hind legs and was exceedingly taller, but with his nose throbbing painfully, he simply wanted to be left alone and was in no mood for a canine oddity to show up and cause trouble. Wait... his panicked mind, racing at the speed of light, suddenly realized that the creature had in fact spoken to him, and had greeted him with a friendly tone. Feeling slightly guilty for the hostility he showed to him, his eyes shifted from the dead rabbit to the wolf-thing's face. "This land is full of strange things- wolves which do not have a problem with bears, a canine that stands on two legs?" he announced matter-of-factly. .ciel .ooc {font-style:italic; } .ciel p {padding:0px 20px 5px 20px; margin:0px; text-indent:35px;} .ciel b {color:#2F3E4C; letter-spacing:.8px;} .ciel {background-color:#B5C2CE; background-image:url(http://sleepyglow.net/souls/gifts/2010may/ciel.png); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; padding:271px 0px 10px 0px; border:1px solid #D2E2F3; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; color:#0F1F2F; letter-spacing:.4px; word-spacing:2px; line-height:13px; width:400px; text-align:justify; } .ciel-border {width:402px; border:1px solid #000000; margin:0 auto; } .ciel .separator{width:350px; border-bottom:1px dotted #2A3D50; margin:0 auto 5px auto;} </style>
- Caillen Winters - 08-13-2010
table © Alaine ooc: n'aww, poor Ciel! xP Cai has a weird accent. tae = to, nae = not :3 wc: 529
- Ciel - 08-16-2010
Sorry for the wait. Apparently we need to have word counts in our posts? Sorry I didn't notice this till now. I'll do it from now on! WC: 773 The bear's large brown eyes watched observed wearily as the strange two-legged wolf creature crouched down so that he appeared smaller. Whether or not the intent was to reassure him or trick him into dropping his guard, Ciel knew that any animal with the intent to challenge him or make a foolish attempt at assigning him the role of prey would have stayed straight up, using his height to intimidate instead of hunkering down. Had he not been attacked by tiny stinging insects and driven into a horrible mood by the intense pain the pissed off bees had bestowed upon him, he would have felt silly for going into full defensive so quickly without his 'opponent' having made any aggressive motions towards him. However, his kind had become notorious for generations at becoming irrational and wildly aggressive when their wide pain threshold was breached. Surely if he had not been such a level-headed animal, he would have charged the wolf instead of simply rearing up in a threatening manner. As the canine spoke to him in slow, soft tones, he felt his guard slip slightly further. Since that fateful afternoon when he'd run into the little pregnant wolf Anu, Ciel had since made a distinction in his mind between the ravenous, snarling beasts he'd been used to fearing, and the silvery female who spoke intelligible high-speak and welcomed him generously to staying in her pack's land. Friends spoke to you, looked you in the eye, and gave you space until the trust was mutual. Upon these thoughts, Ciel allowed himself to fall forward onto his front paws with a heavy thud, though he made no move to draw closer. When the stranger made mention of the fact he'd never seen anything like Ciel before, the bear had to snort at this, which cause his nostrils to flare, and his whole nose to renew it's painful throbbing. He winced, but otherwise managed to avoid reacting in a violent manner. This oddity- an abnormality he'd never seen in his two years of wandering, nor heard about from his Mother's almost endless stream of stories and warnings, had never seen something as simple as a half-starved bear? He supposed it made sense, considering the fact that this place smelled of wolves for miles and miles in nay direction, no bear in their right mind would stick around here for very long. Indeed, the scent instinctively unsettled him as well, but he was far too curious about the many odd things this land housed to be frightened away so easily. He shuffled backwards a few steps in surprise as the bi-ped pulled the dead hare from his shoulder and tossed it over. Quickly recovering from his suspicion, he moved forward carefully, his maw hanging open slightly. Food! Without having to battle more insects, or spend hours swiping pathetically at the fish in the lake, he would be able to put something into his rumbling tummy! When he reached it, he started to sniff at it eagerly, but quickly stopped himself before the aching could remind him a swollen nose would not smell correctly. Deciding to speak at last, he looked back up at his gifter, who seemed not to want to anger Ciel. The thought of how this being would react if he'd seen the hundreds of nights this young bear had spent fleeing for his life and scrambling up trees lightened his mood enough to speak, instead of standing like a large furry sculpture of pain. Ciel spoke once again in the rough, sloppy way one who spends a few years in solitude with no one to talk to speaks "I-I'm sorry I scared you, I'm in a lot of... pain. I'm Ciel, a bear... descended from the third of the three great brothers,... the one gifted with strength and deep slumber, not speed and vision like the second son (cats), or.... strategy and brotherhood like the first (wolves). I'm usually less easy to scare, but... not too long ago, I found some food in a tree, but its little buzzing guards bit me all over my face- I don't think... I'll ever eat honey again." He moaned pitifully, crossing his eyes momentarily to look at the red bowling ball at the end of his snout. "Are you a dog?" he guessed a last, uncrossing his eyes to look up at Caillen. Ciel had been taught about dogs, cousins to wolves, which were similar to them, but in just as many ways different. Momma couldn't give them a better description than that, but it seemed as if today he'd finally bumped into something fitting that description. .ciel .ooc {font-style:italic; } .ciel p {padding:0px 20px 5px 20px; margin:0px; text-indent:35px;} .ciel b {color:#2F3E4C; letter-spacing:.8px;} .ciel {background-color:#B5C2CE; background-image:url(http://sleepyglow.net/souls/gifts/2010may/ciel.png); background-position:top center; background-repeat:no-repeat; padding:271px 0px 10px 0px; border:1px solid #D2E2F3; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:12px; color:#0F1F2F; letter-spacing:.4px; word-spacing:2px; line-height:13px; width:400px; text-align:justify; } .ciel-border {width:402px; border:1px solid #000000; margin:0 auto; } .ciel .separator{width:350px; border-bottom:1px dotted #2A3D50; margin:0 auto 5px auto;} </style>
- Caillen Winters - 08-18-2010
table © Alaine ooc: wc: 511
