WC:: 605 I’m setting this to about a week and a half after Drin’s acceptance into New Dawn.

Palaydrian’s seal point paws had found themselves carrying the tawny femme out of New Dawn packlands once again. She was no doubt quickly falling in love with her new pack, but the thrill of tracking down her grandmother’s past kept her occupied during the daylight hours. So far the trail had run cold, but the young wolfess was hard to give up. She had meandered through the lands embracing Inferni a few times now and found the Dampwoods, as they were called, made for excellent hunting grounds. The femme was surprised another neighboring pack hadn’t cordoned off the area for themselves, but the pine needle forest remained untainted and unclaimed by the pungent odor of territorial urine. Drin selfishly liked to think the more north-western section of the woods was her own little paradise. Here the flora and fauna as well as waking life was abundant. It was the perfect place for the stealthy hunter to sharpen and hone her skills.

It was early morning, but the forest had already woken up out of its syrupy slumber. Shafts of orange and gold sunlight blanketed the forest floor. Bugs of different kinds buzzed about as a multitude of birds dipped and swooped about the tree tops and more shadowy areas. Their birdsong chatter echoed in the woods, light and airy talk undisturbed and going about their business. A lilac dipped ear twitched to flick off the mayfly that had just landed. A sleek lupine body was crouched low beneath a fern bed. Palaydrian was the epitome of a focused hunter. Muscles ready to spring were bundled in her stance and her pupils were pinpricks in the dappled light. The she-wolf moved silently forward, her large paws practiced in the art of rolling slowly onto the ground. Her quarry, a large groundhog, was busy modifying its home, which was a large network of tunnels and holes. Drin would only get one chance, as one false move would send the determined pig into the depths of his home, not to return to the light of day until much later.

She inched as close as she dared, taking shallower breaths now. The groundhog had a systematic way of working. Dig here, pat there, stand tall and look about, and finally collect grass from here before going back under. It was the last task that Drin knew would be her only chance, but the groundhog was growing weary as a pesky robin spotted the wolf a few minutes ago, and the red breasted male began to chirp in his distress. The young Soul waited and became a statue until the robin gave up its protests and continued its mating call. The groundhog went back to its business. Her ears slowly folded backward against her head before she bolted from beneath the ferns in an athletic leap, paws outstretched to make contact with her prey. An ugly sound between a screech and bark erupted from the groundhogs mouth before powerful canines clamped tight around its windpipe breaking it within seconds. The forest erupted with panic energy and slowly clamored down once the death of the groundhog was accepted, and life went on.

Warm blood had been filling the wolf’s mouth before she dropped the lifeless body at her paws. The drink of victory was intense. Drin’s tongue lolled out in a wolfish grin before she picked up her game and carried it back into the ferns. Happy with her successful hunt, the Siamese coated wolf place the still warm carcass under her paw and bent down to take her first bite. Bon appetit!

OOC here.

The coyote moved soundlessly through the forest. Her bright coat was a striking contrast to the surroundings around her, Terra moving to places where the red could be mistaken for a bright patch of earth, or the sun striking against a tree. Keeping hidden was hard work, if serving no purpose beyond entertaining the mischievous female. Hunger had driven her out, looking for something easy and quick to grab. A fresh corpse, a slow predator that's already fed. She might even hunt something herself if the right creature caught her mind.

It wasn't to be, the warm scent of blood grabbing the slim female's attention. Silently she slipped through the woods, tail wagging behind her as she approached her next meal. Terra paused as the wolf came into view, a fat groundhog clutched in her paws. Terra's mouth watered at the sight, thinking about how she was going to get the groundhog away from the wolf. She partly stepped forward, only to freeze in place at New Dawn's scent. Growling quietly she crouched down, thinking about how to retreat.

Palaydrian’s head was bent as if in prayer as her open maw descended towards the torn neck flesh of the groundhog. She readied her jaws to tear into the flesh once more when her ears flicked towards the low growl. Immediately, the hackles on the female rose and bristled out as she lowered her body over her kill like a lioness to her cub. Her secular heterochromia eyes anxiously scanned the surroundings. They lighted upon the red coat of a coyote upon their second pass. The wolf wasn’t surprised she hadn’t noticed the intruder’s scent as blood was now caked in her snout. A low rumble began in her throat, she had only heard bad things about the coyotes and mix breeds in these parts, but she wasn’t against non-wolves. The growl was simply a warning that the stranger had been spotted, and Drin would not give up her quarry without a fight.

Stranger, come out of the shadows that I may greet you,” she said, the growl leaving her voice gravelly but falling away. “There is plenty of meat on this fat hog, I might as well share.” It was an invitation if the stranger so wished to dine. Drin turned her attention back to the groundhog and set her paws on one half of the body. She bit down on the neck and gave the corpse’s upper body a few twists and tugs, before pulling it apart. Satisfied with her work, Drin left the severed body on the floor between herself and the stranger. “Heads or tails?” She asked, a friendly tone smoothing down her hackles and replacing her previous alert stance.

The coyote stiffened as hackles raised. She should have been more quiet. Getting out of there would be much more difficult now. She stayed low as the eyes focused on her. Heart pounding she focused on remembering Zalen's words about the pack not harming her. It was very difficult to think on with the large growling wolf before her, ready to rip her apart. The words that did come was confusing. Terra stepped out daintily, tiny paws holding her without stirring a single noise. She had earned the title Shadow Walker after all.

Suspicion colored her green eyes at the welcome words. Yes, Terra wanted to eat the hog. Was the wolf laying a trap? To go from angrily growling to offering a share seemed rather strange. Completely silent she watched the groundhog be divided. As soon as it was placed down Terra darted forward, grabbing the upper half. Retreating a safe distance again Terra eyed the other suspiciously, prepared to flee with her meal.

WC:: 295 Sorry for the delay! Finally saw the doc yesterday and it’s a lower respiratory infection...no bueno. Sad

Tails it is...” the golden femme said under her breath before taking the bottom portion of the groundhog corpse. She watched the coywolf with curiosity, averting her gaze now and then to enjoy their shared meal. Palaydrian noticed a few similarities the two shared. Ears dipped in paint and all her limbs except for one matched the hybrid, but other than that, the differences were what attracted Drin’s attention. She admired her dinner guest’s large ears. Her visage which made her so plainly coyote was something fascinating as it was on the body of a wolf. Drin had heard rumors of mixings, but had never seen a hybrid up close. She wondered if this female also carried the Luperci gift as so many she had met in the old Bleeding Souls lands had. Could the mutation be carried in all types of canines? She didn’t think an answer would come out of the stranger so easily.

The female’s suspicion hung thick in the air. Drin knew neither would be able to appreciate the fresh kill without anxiety looming over their heads, so she decided to break the ice. “Look, I mean you no harm. My name is Palaydrian,” she said hoping the silent one would chose to speak this time.

OOC get better.

She wasn't snapped at or anything else unwelcoming. Perhaps it was a genuine offer of being nice. Terra really didn't understand those New Dawn members. They were really strange. She watched the wolf dig into the flesh for a few minutes before cautiously placing her half down and taking a bite out of it. She did do her best to keep her guard up, but with no threat presented it was soon forgotten, the meal vanishing down her throat.

The small female jerked away as soon as she was addressed, the partly eaten half forgotten. Alright. I'm Terra. There was no point in lying, since the entire pack knew what her real name was. It was hard to avoid being known after being half killed outside their pack. Her tail swished softly, sitting down to her meal again. Terra didn't like that it had been interrupted, and she was grudgingly beginning to relax around the wolf. Might as well make the most of the meal before her.

WC 2+ Thank you!

Terra. The femme repeated the coywolf’s name in her mind. Her movements didn’t go unnoticed by the wolf. She wondered why the girl was so apprehensive. Was this a packwolf from the war altercations Jiva had told her about? Maybe everyone was just on edge in neutral territories. Palaydrian tried to make her stance casual, not wanting her new acquaintance to think there was any hostility between them. She was still new to these lands, and if her pack had anything against hybrids, she was none the wiser.

She took a few tentative bites of her kill, allowing the hunger pangs in her stomach to adjust to the sudden influx of food before taking large bites. Drin didn’t realize how hungry she was until the flavor of blood consumed her tastebuds. She glanced up at Terra, hopefully enjoying her meal as well. Drin eventually moved to a laying down position with the finished remains of her half between her paws. She licked at the bones, satisfied with her lunch. “Are you in one of the packs?” Drin asked, curious of which borders she may might be close to at the moment.

It didn't take long before the small meal disappeared. Terra's manners were rather messy, snapping up the flesh and enjoying the mix of meat and organs as it ran down her stomach. Blood flavored everything, a rich warm sauce covering everything. Sitting up Terra licked around her maw, working on clearing the blood away. Her tail wagged softly as she finished up, head snapping down at the bones to see if she could get anything more from it.

Glancing up at the question Terra grinned. A small amount of pride filled her frame. It wasn't often she talked about the pack she belonged to, but she was proud of it. I belong to Cour des Miracles. A wonderful pack. You can do whatever you want there! Protection, safety, and they don't judge you for what you are. Rather important to the thief, as she wasn't about to give up stealing.

Palaydrian was surprised to realize she was enjoying the coywolf’s company. Her tawny gold tail lightly swished against the pine needled earth a she watched the petite lady consume her half. She was amazed at the fast work Terra had made, and couldn’t help but allow the creeping smile on her lips to spread. The she-wolf stayed in her lounging position when the red furred female sat up and swelled with pride at the chance of speaking about her pack. Cour des Miracles... she mused, she rather liked the name of it, and from what Terra was telling her, it was a pack anyone would be happy in.

They don’t judge you for what you are.” Drin automatically flinched, but quickly recovered from her physical response with a question, ”A pack of equals then?” She asked, curious as to what Terra had meant as she had come from a birth pack that felt her gift of Luperci was something akin to a curse. She was quickly learning that the factions around these parts were much different from where she grew up, and she wanted to learn as much as she could about them, so as not to come off as a complete sheltered child.

That was an interesting response. Especially coming from someone who belonged to a pack who did do just that, judging others based on their blood. What had she been judged for? Perhaps for being pure wolf. Inferni did insist on subsisting with coyote blood in them after all. The skulls on the outside were pretty big warnings as well. That still made it seem a bit silly, for her to turn around and join a pack that would judge others, especially with such a clearly violent reaction to the idea.

Terra looked oddly over at Palaydrian. Equals? What kind of pack would be made up of equals? No. We have alphas and betas and deltas and gammas. They just go by different names. How could a pack even manage to function if all of them were equal? What if a threat came? How would they organize? It would take a lot longer and be a lot more difficult if canines didn't know who to follow and who to lead.

Being Luperci is a gift child,” Syliat soothed, gently brushing the tears off of Palaydrian’s 4 month old face. “Then why did-did they call me n-names?” The pup whined in hyperventilating breaths, the voice of child who’d spent an hour bawling. “Because the ignorant throw rocks at the things they do not understand...cannot even begin to fathom a different way of life when they are so stubbornly stuck in the past. The world has moved on Palaydrian. Keep your chin up, all this...them, will mean nothing one day.” The demon embraced her great granddaughter and sent her on her way. The pup hadn’t understood what she had meant then, but now grown, Drin was beginning to realize how very much so her old pack and the lands she had grown up in differed from the thoughts and ideals of Souls wolves.

The tawny femme felt a stab of embarrassment from the look Terra gave her, but perhaps she should’ve fleshed out her question a bit more. “Oh, of course a pack would need its hierarchy in place. I simply meant, well, they do not discriminate against lineage or blood?” She hoped her question wasn’t offensive. Drin had no qualms against coyotes or mix breeds. Mostly because she hadn’t had the opportunity to have conversations with other breeds other than wolf, but she had no reason or thought ingrained in her brain to be racist. “I realize now, how many of the packs differ from each other. Could you tell me more about yours?” Hopefully her curiosity wasn’t a burden.

- Terra - 05-14-2012

[html]

OOC here.

The question was clarified, Terra's tail wagging softly. A smirk set across her features at how it was worded. Lineage meant nothing to her, as she only granted others worth depending on what she had seen them do. Blood Terra understood more about, having experienced the prejudice, both against her wolf blood and against her coyote blood. Both blamed the bad traits on the other species, refusing to see her for what she was. The alpha had apologized, soothing Terra's fears, but she still felt the divide in her blood quite clearly when around New Dawn.

Managing not to laugh Terra shook her head. This truly was an odd one, asking for there not to be any while belonging to a pack that did so. No. We are not like your pack. Surprise flickered at Palaydrian's words. Of course the packs differed from each other. They had different leaders, lived in different areas. If they were all the same there would only be one pack. Well, we have two main divisions. Warriors and caretakers. The warriors are called knights, and they train to defend the land, while the caretakers are called courtesans, and do everything from taking care of pups to making things with their hands.

Terra’s answer stung Palaydrian. What had the female meant by that? She’d have to ask, but she was afraid of what she would learn. Had she joined the wrong pack? The discrimination she had met back home had only become bearable when she stopped shifting, but Syliat had told her it was a gift that she should be proud of. She wanted to get away from a place that set up a list of standards and rules each member must uphold, not be held down by something. Luperci was in her blood and back home she had had to forget that part of her life and deny her true self. Would New Dawn ask the same of her here?

The thought made her feel sick. Terra obviously had something against New Dawn or she wouldn’t have scoffed so much at the answer. Drin wanted to get to the bottom of it, but was momentarily distracted by the information on Cour des Miracles. “What division do you take part in?” Drin asked. She didn’t think such a petite creature would uphold the title of a Warrior, but she wouldn’t be surprised if that was Terra’s answer. “Do you possess a trade skill? I’ve only heard about canines working with their hands as humans once did, but I’ve never seen it. I guess you could say I came from a very sheltered upbringing,” Drin admitted. “Though I did do a bit of secret gardening when I was younger...” she explained, unsure if that was something she should’ve fessed up to or not.

OOC here.

She certainly was curious! Well, as long as Terra didn't give away anything important, like size and things that they needed, there was no harm in talking about it. She'd make sure to tell Palaydrian who in the pack knew about the court as well, so she could ask them her questions as well. I'm a courtesan. Not a fighter, and not interested in being one. Telling stories is more fun. She did tricks as well for entertainment, and that was Terra's core in the end, working to amuse herself.

Terra shook her head at the question. She knew what trade was, but Terra definitely didn't do that. She was a thief, taking what she wanted. Trading was hard, especially when it was so much more fun to steal it from the unsuspecting victim. That's nice. What's gardening? Perhaps it meant making clothes, or building stuff, or something else like that. Terra didn't really have a very good grasp on anything humanized.

Palaydrian nodded at Terra’s response and a friendly smile played on her lips. Her assumptions had been correct after all. A story teller, Drin thought to herself remembering a few of the elders in her pack as holding such titles. She fondly thought of the large pack meetings where they’d gather in the high places to hear the stories of old being told in the dying light of the sun going down. Here she came to realize that the wolves who so openly embraced Luperci also harnessed fire, which she had a natural fear of. Yet tales were told by fireside here, and the golden femme knew she eventually had to get over her fear or be forever the odd woman out.

I’m not a fighter either,” Drin admitted with a slight shrug of her shoulders as she drew her body off the ground to sit back on her haunches. She wasn’t able to mask the surprise that came over her when Terra asked her about gardening. The fae supposed she had wrongly assumed all wolves in these parts had some knowledge of the human pastime. Her smile broadened, she wasn’t as sheltered as she thought she was, well at least not with this.

It’s growing and cultivating plantlife,” she said with some pride, “Well more specifically vegetables or herbs that can be used and consumed either for food or medicinal purposes. Though, when I was younger I also liked planting different kinds of flowers,” she laughed softly at this confession, “I’d arrange bouquets for my mother, but you could eventually dry out the flowers to create infusions for teas.” Drin hadn’t realized how much her great grandmother was teaching her when she was a pup until the words fell off her tongue. Had Syliat been planning on turning her into a healer? The newfound purpose for her green thumb made her heart beat faster, she wanted to practice her skills and see how much knowledge she had obtained.

Now I’m getting carried away, but that’s basically the jist,” she said, feeling that now would be a good time to ask Terra about her feelings on New Dawn. “What you said earlier...about my pack being different from yours. I couldn’t help but notice some...discomfort?” She asked, trying to keep her voice from being accusatory. She simply wanted to know if maybe Terra knew something about her new pack that she didn’t.

- Terra - 05-16-2012

[html]

OOC here.

Terra noted the fact that she wasn't a fighter with some relief. The slippery coyote was good at escaping, and could definitely do some damage if she fought dirty, but the wolf before her was definitely stronger, and was capable of taking her down with the proper skills. Learning what gardening was surprised Terra. Why would anyone want to grow plants? There were plenty already lying around. Grass, trees, bushes, flowers. Why would they need more?

That explained it. If it was for food Terra could see how wonderful gardening would be. A small giggle escaped her at the mention of flower planting. Flowers were pretty, but Terra wasn't that kind of creature, very much involved in doing whatever caught her attention at the moment. She could picture the kindly wolf, happily smiling down at the flowers as she walked along them. Tail wagging Terra decided that gardening was truly a nice thing. Will you be gardening again? Terra would definitely help with the eating part.

Asked why she was uncomfortable with New Dawn Terra's gaze immediately dropped to the ground. That wasn't a subject she liked. New Dawn...doesn't care for coyotes. They keep them from coming into the pack. I have some friends in your pack...one turned against me when I came to the borders, drove me off. At the same time, your alpha let the pack save my life when I was dying. Laughing softly Terra shook her head. I don't really get it. I know that they don't want me near the pack, but then they did that. Why?

Table change up! Smile

The gold fae nodded in response to Terra’s question of whether or not she’d be gardening again. She hadn’t made up her mind if it would be for medicinal purposes or not, but the girl definitely wanted to get her paws dirty again. “If you’re interested, I’d be willing to teach you what I know some time,” she offered with a smile. Gardening with Syliat had been so relaxing for her, and it was amazing what kind of wildlife would come around if a garden was well maintained. More specifically, the butterflies. Drin loved the daintily winged insects and the fat lazy bumble bees whose goal was to pollinate the flowers. Syliat had devised a clever way of creating hybrid plants for her various serums by specifically planting different groups of flowers together. Genius really.

But Terra moved on to the harder questions, and the ocean eyed lady didn’t have a chance to mull over her thoughts. Drin listened intently with some nervousness as she wasn’t sure what she’d uncover about her new pack. The coywolf’s story didn’t settle well in Drin’s stomach. Although she understood how a wolf pack might not want hybrids, she herself knew that if it was up to her, the blood running through her pack mate’s veins would never be up for debate. The Siamese coated femme did not discriminate against any kind of canine. They were all brethren in her book.

Her ocean eyes were troubled with the news of a fellow pack mate attacking Terra. How could a dog claim to be one’s friend, but turn their back on them as soon as they got the chance to? Probably a female...she thought to herself, old habits still creeping in her mind. Drin was awfully confused. How had this event come to pass? Terra was chased and then Zalen her Alpha...her father figure, allowed her the help she needed? “I’m not sure I understand either,” she admitted, “I am so sorry for what happened to you.” It was a heartfelt apology even though the golden girl didn’t really know Terra all that well.

Who attacked you? If you don’t mind me asking...I’m still very new to the pack and have yet to meet all the faces and players of New Dawn. Perhaps I could get to the bottom of what happened?” Another offer, but it truly disturbed her that she had come to a place that apparently so openly discriminated against non-wolves. “I am glad Zalen spared your life, but I am embarrassed by the actions that occurred against you by my pack brother or sister...I didn’t realize such prejudice existed within my new home.

- Terra - 05-18-2012

[html]

OOC here.

Terra nodded her head eagerly, eyes bright. Chances of the energetic coyote settling down and actually growing an interest in gardening was unlikely, but she definitely wanted to learn about it. See how it worked, watch the plants grow. Learn which ones she was not supposed to destroy for fun. Nodding her head Terra accepted the apology. Thanks. It's not your fault. I still have some friends left there...and I don't think I need to understand to be grateful that I'm still alive.

Asked who attacked her Terra darkened. She stood stock still, body tense at the thought, remembering what happened. The coyote regretted ever saving his life. She should have left him to die. His name's Augustus. Her eyes glittered, hard as diamonds. No light of warmth shot through. Two sides of the coin resided within her, and this was the other one, the side capable of killing without mercy. I didn't realize it either...until my dirty blood was pointed out. She laughed, a harsh sound that mocked the world that had made her what she was.

- Palaydrian Soul - 05-21-2012

[html]

400+Haha I think I've just made Drin a crusader!

Palaydrian was surprised with herself. She had honestly felt she would never have this ease of conversation with a female again, but as the minutes ticked by with Terra, she realized with hidden pleasure, that she’d actually be able to trust again. Granted, she hardly knew anything about her new acquaintance save for the pack she belonged to, but Drin was finding that words came easily to her tongue as well as emotions for the coywolf she couldn’t quite explain.

Perhaps it was the fact that the golden fae’s heart had been unscathed from the brutal acts Kila had taken out upon her, if this were the case, Drin could breathe a sigh of relief. She’d had always been sympathetic towards others, especially those who suffered some injustice. It pleased the New Dawn wolf to come to the conclusion that she had not been hardened by her merciless dispatch from the lands she had grown up in. All females weren’t as evil as she had convinced herself.

Drin’s eyes smiled when the coywolf nodded with obvious enthusiasm. It pleased the young Soul that she’d be able to teach someone else the skills Syliat had impressed upon her. Yet that optimism faltered when Terra gave name to the creature who had so wrongly attacked her. Augustus. The name echoed in her head, and she would remember. It wasn’t a nomer belonging to someone she knew just yet, but once she met this pack brother, she promised herself that she would have a few words with him.

Your blood is not dirty!” Drin insisted, not in the least surprised at the cold laugh emanating from Terra. “I am not familiar with the customs nor etiquette around here, but as being on this earth, I believe no creature, regardless of the blood in their veins, is above another.” Bicolored ocean eyes burned with anger. She may have been rather strange admitting such an opinion, but Drin had always had an almost angelic outlook towards life. “I do not know this Augustus yet, but I promise you now, he and I will have words,” the Siamese coated femme nodded her head.

What transpired that day?” If she were to confront a pack brother, she wanted the hard cold facts. Drin was young, but capable. The day of her plight, she had thought Arlo would surely have his way with her, but something inside of her awakened with the threat of terror and violence. A flame had been sparked and when she had wrestled back her freedom and crashed through the river, she had been reborn as Palaydrian Soul...water the starting point of new life. Never again would she sit back and allow evil to fester and devastate the lives of friends or family. A wolf who so painstakingly avoided violence would now choose to fight for what she thought was only right.

- Terra - 05-21-2012

Surprise filtered through at the sharp enthusiasm her new acquaintance showed. Terra hadn't known Palaydrian long at all, yet she was leaping to Terra's defense, saying her blood wasn't filthy. The difference between the species was felt so sharply by the female, knowing when she acted like a coyote and when she acted like a wolf. Conflicting instincts that sometimes battled inside her, and yet she was told it was alrightby someone belonging to a pack that was so insistent on not having those with coyote blood in their pack!

The coyote chuckled, shaking her head softly. It's fine. I may not understand your pack, but I do have friends there. You don't need to go to battle for me. Not when she was planning on being the one to punish the wolf. Perhaps take him and return him to the condition he was in when they first met. Asked about what happened all she could do was look away. There was a puppy from New Dawn. She'd gotten lost. I wanted to help her, return her back to the pack. Augustus found us though, and accused me of working to harm the pup. He told me to leave and never return. It was a couple weeks after that when the cougar attacked me.
