- Firefly Sadira - 08-31-2008

Firefly had moved away from the packlands to find something new and different to explore. She tried to stay away from the scents of the other packs and make due with what the wide span of unclaimed lands had to offer. In her eyes it really wasn 't much except more dirt to walk upon and sand and shores to see the sea. Her emotions were all locked up tight in a box where they belonged, except for the rage and hatred that boiled inside, setting her nerves on end and her temper flairing. She was lucky she'd escaped the eyes of the packs so far.

Today she'd been padding underneith the maple trees, the leaves above slowly changing from the deep green to the soft yellows, orange and crimson. Just the beginnings of the majestic change was taking place but she really didn't care right now. The beauty of it all was lost on the soul of the youth. She didn't know which way was up and which way was down but she did know one thing, that she was still alive and so was the bastard that had rampaged her dreams and shattered the world she knew. That alone ruined what she could have enjoyed.

Leland had been wandering again, still pondering over and over just what he was going to do. Normally he would move forward, but that would meet him only with the ocean, and turning back wasn’t much of a good option either. So it seemed he always returned to the same conclusion, he was to settle down here, which wasn’t unappealing exactly. Every creature he had met so far had been kind enough, the food sources were abundant and the land could certainly sustain another canine such as himself. Even so, he hadn’t really felt as if he had found his niche. While he had no reason to leave, and this explained his presence still, he hadn’t any real reason to stay, but he was willing to wait around to find one.

It was easier to find one if he wandered and so wander he did. It was on this trip of aimless wandering that he came across the female, who from the looks of it seemed rather down. Leland approached her cautiously, a female in a bad mood was no thing to play around with. Clearing his voice, his odd colored eyes looked over her, not finding any obvious reasons for the distress. . "Ah, heylo there miss. What might a pretty lass like yourself be doing on such a fine day?" His voice was cheery, but soft and patient, knowing from the look of the female’s face there was a chance his normal friendly greetings might get rebuffed.

She had escaped the world to get rid of the creatures that seemed to believe they possessed intelligence and yet in her solitude one of those creatures seemed to have found her. She had caught the soft padding of paws on the crisp autumn leaves and yet she didn't stir, not even when that voice spoke up and the ownered was identified as male. The words he spoke made her pin her ears back as her heckles began to raise, showing the spark of annoyance at the compliments that he'd so kindly placed at her paws. She sat there in the silence letting the moment drag on as she wished that the creature would just move on.. and yet he never did.

Quick as a snake she snapped her head to the side and growled a warning to the boy who was so far away and yet too close for her. Her words bit at the male as she spoke, "And what draws you to find such a pretty little lass all alone on a nice fine day." she mimicked the stranger, her eyes dark and seeping with hatred, not at the male but everything he seemed to represent. The stronger hand in almost any relationship, the power to make and to break. Was he too here to show her what her worth was, such a pretty little thing, all alone with no one to help her.

The words that came out of the female’s mouth were like the bite of a serpent. Leland visibly recoiled from the sting, laying his ears flat against his head and averting his eyes. Although he, of course, had had unpleasant encounters in the past, this was the first time his friendly nature had been met with such hostility in these lands. It was also the first time that a female had displayed such displeasure at his friendly flirting. He never met anything by it and the hurt was evident in his face and body language. "I’m sorry miss. I was just out taking a walk. I mean no harm, honestly." Leland took a few steps back, ready to retreat if this female seemed so uncomfortable with his presence. Something sunk in his stomach, as Leland was unable to figure out what he had done wrong.

- Firefly Sadira - 10-01-2008

Firefly crouched down low as she glared at the male, she could see the confusion on his face as he seemed to back away from her, the words he spoke rang alongside the manner he was granting towards the young woman. She snarled at him like a wounded wildcat as she spat. "Really? All in innocence.." She didn't attempt to run but she sat like she was about to make the choice at any moment. She had no notion of attacking the male, he wasn't the one that had left her violated and beaten on the floor of her prison.

Her emerald eyes stared out at him, she was torn between wondering if he really had just happened upon her or if he had a reason for finding the girl. She wanted to trust him but her mind was like a ticking time bomb, every thought that she might have to beleive he was just a stranger out on an autumn walk was met with hostile snide comments of the acts that another had done to her and what this male could well be capable of as well.

- Leland - 10-02-2008

The hostility and animalistic fear was still evident in her voice, she looked like a cornered deer. Yet there was no corner, and as far as Leland was concerned they were equals, neither one was the prey of the other. Nodding at her question, which Leland had trouble depicting if it was a serious question or a sarcastic one, her voice still raised in a snarl, he spoke as simply as he could. "Really miss." Leland took a few more steps back, his bi colored eyes giving her a pitying and pleading look. He disliked not being accepted, and hated that the female felt she had something to fear from him. Leland shrugged sympathetically to the girl and turned on his heels to go.

Firefly stared up at the male from her crouching position, her sharp angry eyes watching him as he spoke, the hurt and pain was plain as day slapped across his face. The two little words he spoke did little to sooth her and yet she figured that perhaps once maybe the stranger wasn't lying. She took one hesitant step forward as she lowered her lips slowly to cover her fangs. Suddenly it seemed like there was no reason to keep up her front because with one simple shrug of a shoulder the stranger was turning to disappear.

Her ears perked forward as she stared at his turning backside in confusion. Had he really been telling the truth, was he really just a stranger out on a autumn stroll. She couldn't tell but somehow she felt a little bit guilty for the treatment she'd dished out upon the poor fellow. Raising to her paws she called out, "I'm.. sorry.. wait." The girl was desperate for someone to talk to and yet she wanted to be alone so much. She was being torn in a million directions and just felt like screaming. Firefly knew she could be making a major mistake but she did it anyways.

- Leland - 10-10-2008

I’m.. sorry.. wait. Leland’s ears perked up at the voice and the male easily turned on her feet, facing the girl. One eyes sky blue and the other a soft chocolate color focused on her face, trying to decide if she was set now, or if she would just as easily turn sour on him again. Nodding to her, assenting to stay, Leland did not smile, least the lady take it in the wrong way. "Yes miss, what do you want?" Leland would be happy to oblige to most any request, so long as it did not contend with his personal morals, and his voice reflected that. Patient and bright, but not to loud or eager, the male knew how to speak in calm tones and went not carried away with his own friendliness (which was not often), calm was his default setting. Easily the husky tail waved out behind him, waiting for the female to make the next move.

She wasn't for certain why she'd apologized for what she'd said, maybe it really was how hurt he looked when she thrown such insults at him and hadn't seemed to care at all when the pain was more than apparent in his eyes. She knew pain too, perhaps more than he would, but she couldn't believe the few words she'd spat at the male had had such an affect. She hadn't really met a soul that was so in touch with the world that one torn spirit could be allowed to injure him so.

She flicked her ears back in confusion as she asked him a question instead of answering the one he presented to her. "Why'd you come back.." There could have been a million reasons why he'd returned but she couldn't imagine after the way she'd reacted that anyone would have came back even with an apology. She wasn't exactly in a stable mindset. Her eyes were even more confused as she realized that the boy seemed to settle back into that friendly frame once more.. even after her outburst and so much more.

Leland was surprised at the question, but he did not show any signs of amusement now, despite the fact he thought that the answer was very clear. "You asked me to, miss." Still gentle, Leland spoke to the girl with respect and patience. There was nothing funny about the girl’s state of being and Leland felt truly sympathetic towards her. If he could change the way he felt, he would try, but he was at a loss of what to do, having his earlier attempts rejected. Swallowing, brush like tail swaying slowly behind him, Leland ventured again. "Is there sumthing you want to talk about? I harve a good ear for these things, so I’ve been told." It was true, Leland had stood by and listened to Lela spew her heart out time and time again, something that had been painful for both Lela and Leland, if he could do that he could listen to anyone, and had before, offering his warm, fluffy shoulder to cry on.

- Firefly Sadira - 10-19-2008

She stared at him with a wave of confusion across her maw as he gave her the honest answer to her question. She would doubt that anyone would really just return because she'd asked them too, especially after the words she'd spat in his face. Her ears pressed back against her skull as she frowned. "Just like that?" she asked, the doubt in her voice. She really couldn't believe that the boy would return just because she'd asked, but the doubt was soon replaced with the soft question he presented before her.

Lowering her eyes she shook her head and sighed. She still didn't trust him but it wasn't because he didn't seem nice enough.. she just couldn't put herself anywhere close to believing there was anyone who could be kind without wanting something. Her emerald eyes glanced up at the boy as she replied glumly. "No.. nothing you'd want to hear about.." she scraped at the ground with her nails as she shook her head back and forth. She wrinkled her nose as she questioned him once again. "Why would you want to listen to someone complain anyways.."

- Leland - 10-20-2008

"It might make you feel better." Leland shrugged. Why did anyone listen to anyone else? Other people were interesting, their happiness and sorrow alike, and Leland was capable of finding merit in both. Although he was appeared to constantly be in a state of bliss, he knew that others did not find joy as easily as he did. It was a shame really, and Leland would do what he could to remedy that for him. Of course, he also knew too, not to take failure to cheer others up to heart. One person can not always save another, a lesson he had learned early on.

Smiling gently at the girl, Leland thumped his tail against the ground twice. Perhaps if she didn’t want to relieve herself of her burdens just yet, they could at least take her mind off of them. "Well then, would ya like to talk about sumthing else?" Leland could talk about just anything, though he wasn’t sure if there would be anything worth talking about as far as the girl was concerned. "We could start with our names. Leland." Leland let his bulky husky head droop in a small bow as he waited for the lass’s name.

- Firefly Sadira - 10-22-2008

Firefly wasn't for certain if it would make her feel better but she did know that she'd been hiding out from everyone for so long that she didn't even realize how lonely she was and how much she craved to just hear the voice of another and know they were there. She wouldn't admit that to the male before her, but for the moment she refused to let him out of her space.. just so long as he stayed enough of a distance away for her to flee if the need arose she felt this was ok.

Turning her emerald eyes towards the male she weakly smiled and agreed. "I'm not sure what there is to talk about.. but perhaps you're right.." Perhaps Firefly wouldn't ever fully trust anyone she didn't already know from now on but atleast for a moment in time she could sooth the need for company in her wild soul. When he granted her his name she couldn't help it as her ears fkicled back against her skull before she finally gave in. "Alright, it's Firefly." she said, slightly embarassed by presenting that name that seemed to bring up such strange yet repeatedly similar topics, she hoped this time it might be a bit different but she doubted that.

Leland nodded in agreement as Firefly finally consented to talking with the foolish brute. Smiling Leland racked his mind for a topic. Normally conversation came so easily to the male, but Leland was prepared to tread very carefully, he did not wish to offend or upset the girl with anything he said. "Alright Firefly..." Leland paused, it was too easy to start with the generic topics, but they were safe, usually. Leland did not know the cause of the lady’s distress so anything could set it off. Sighing he shook his head, annoyed ay himself for having so much trouble starting off the conversation.

Laughing he shook out his fur and resettled himself into a sitting position. Perhaps the idea wasn’t the best, but it was a way to get her talking, and it took some of the pressure off of him. "Let’s play a game, eh? The rules er really simple, we can ask the other any question we’d like and the other has to answer it. I’ll go first, start off with ah really easy one. When it’s your turn juss ask me anything about meself you want, don’t worry if you think it’s rude or too private or anything like that." Leland thump his tail once against the ground, prepare to enjoy the game more than Firefly would, the two year old male always did love a good game. "Okay, ya ready? How long have you been living in a pack?" The pack’s scent was on the female’s pelt, though not as strongly as it should be if she spent most her time there. Still, she belonged there, the scent wasn’t that faded.

- Firefly Sadira - 10-27-2008

She shifted uncomfortable as the oddly marked male spoke before her, when he began to talk of a game she narrowed her eyes slightly but listened still. She could be a bitch, but she could also give the soul a chance, and he hadn't crossed any lines yet to upset her again. She flicked her ears forward as she listened and absorbed every word he spoke. When he asked if she was ready she just merely nodded, the skeptic look across her face already speaking nicely for the young woman.

When the question came she bared her fangs lightly at the mention of her pack but she was only silent a moment as she tried to figure out how best to answer. Finally she just shrugged and admitted. "I was born into a pack on the otherside of the mountain.. I ran away to follow my eldest siblings on some adventures.." she didn't know if she really wanted to tell him the whole of it but she went on, leaving out the between factors. "My sister and I returned this summer and found that fire had ripped through our old home." She really never had cared about what had happened to the land she was born in, though she wished she could have seen Clouded Tears atleast, but there was little chance of that now.

Turning back to the male she finished. "I found and joined Dahlia de Mai.. and I've been there since.." except that time she'd been locked in a shack in Inferni.. but she pushed that memory back into the closet with a flush of dark passion as her bright eyes snapped back to the male. Her turn now. "Why are you not in a pack?" she asked. The male seemed like one of the ones she'd have almost instantly marked as a packmember.. there seemed to be a lot of fluff between his ears, and equiped with that happy go lucky attitude.. yeah, typical pack protege.

Leland winced as Firefly bared her fangs at the mention of a pack... Did the female not enjoy being in a pack? One of Leland’s greatest woes at the moment was his lack of a permanent home, and familiar faces to fill that home with. Wolves and dogs alike were social creatures, created to bond with one another, rely on one another, and the longer Leland stayed on his own, the more uncomfortable he felt. However it was clear Firefly did not feel exactly the same way.

Leland smiled sadly at Firefly’s answer, perhaps her heart was true to the pack that had burnt to ashes, or in a land further away she had visited on her travels, but that could not be helped now (though Leland did not say so). Raising his brows at her question, he chuckled, as if she had read his mind. "Ah! Well, I haven’t quite found the place that’s jus’ right fer me, you see? You can’t just plant yer feet anywhere and call it home, er yer heart won’t be happy, ‘least that’s what I think." More and more Leland was wondering if these lands held the place to make his heart happy, and though he was unwilling to join a pack, he was also unwilling to leave. Turning back to Firefly he grinned again, trying to get the lass to enjoy the game. "If ya had to pick, would you rather be a fish er a sparrow?"
- Firefly Sadira - 11-06-2008

Firefly didn't exactly hate her pack, she just hadn't got over the rough spell the pack had been through yet and it was a tender subject. She watched the male, realizing that she still made him feel nervous, which she really didn't mind, she'd rather the male be nervous about her than feel over confident, over confidence was something she couldn't tolerate at this moment in life. She sat there quietly while he found an answer to the question she'd asked and she furrowed her brows at his answer, shaking her head as she stated simply. "You can't know if it's right for you til you try it for yourself.." She highly doubted that the male had even tried to find or make a home out of one of the packs, it just seemed like an excuse to her.

Her skeptic look just clung to her features as the male delivered his next question, one that almost made her laugh out loud. Shaking her head as she wondered silently if he was a bit crazy she stated dryly. "Why would I want to be either." She sighed and sat there quietly for a moment like she'd already abandoned the game before she finally admitted grudgedly. "A sparrow, I could alway just fly away when I needed to." The girl never would have backed down from a fight or felt the need to run away until recently, but somewhere in her aching heart there seemed to be a little trapped sparrow now waiting for the chance to fly.

Her emerald eyes glanced back at the male as she suddenly asked her question. If you could do anything over again why would you?" She could think of something she'd do over again but she didn't think that she ever would get the chance and of course.. knowing the way the world tended to work it would have came back around in one way or another. Life wasn't fair, she always had known that rule. It was a whimsical question but still one that needed an answer.

- Leland - 11-17-2008
Leland shook his head. He believed in fate and luck, and none of the existing packs was his destiny, he knew that much. When he found the right one, or at least one that would be worth fitting on for size, he would know. None of them were home though, he knew that much, but he did not voice that opinion. If Firefly felt one needed to live there first and decide later, then perhaps she was right as well. Different ways worked for different people, he was not one to try to tear down another’s way of life, even if it did not work for him.

Smiling at her question, he shook his head. "I wouldn’t change a thing. If I did, why I wouldn’t be where I am today. I’m quite content with my life now, even if I wusn’t always happy with the past. " Leland turned his bi colored eyes to those of the female, searching more intently. He knew that perhaps she didn’t really want to share, but she had given him an opening, and he would take it. As gently as possibly, Leland voice the question, knowing that she had a much more in detail answer than he had provided. "What would ya do ov’er?"
- Firefly Sadira - 11-17-2008

She doubted that the male wouldn't change a thing, but he insisted that he was happy with his life though the past hadn't been. Her cinnamon hued nose wrinkled as she stared at the male with a look of disbelief. She almost wanted to call him out right then and there.. there was no way anyone had a life so perfect that somewhere in the past they wouldn't have changed one thing. Instead she just shook her head and frowned.

When he reversed the question on her she felt the hairs on the back of her neck bristle as she shot back. "That's not fair, I just asked you that!" There had been no rule saying you couldn't repeat the same question back, though she stared at him with a disgruntle look to her face as she fell quiet for a moment. Finally she finally answered quietly, "I'd have broken my promise and never returned to these lands." She was truthful in her words, if she'd never returned to these lands she never would have met Haku, never would have become envolved in the war.. and though she probably still would have been a bitch, she probably wouldn't have been so bitter.

She turned those bright emerald eyes back to the male as her ears, folded back against her skull slowly flicked forward as she asked. "Why are you hanging around here then, if there's no pack for you, then?" She was just being rude but she really didn't care.. she wasn't for certain if she liked the way the game was going now.

- Leland - 11-25-2008
Leland shrugged at the girl who was unhappy with his honest answer and also unhappy with his question. The question wasn’t unfair, unoriginal perhaps, but not unfair. There had never been a rule stating that one could repeat the same question, but there also hadn’t been a rule that states one could not repeat the same question. Yet she answered it and Leland smiled sympathetically at the girl. Promises were broken all too often, and yet here was one who had kept her promise and suffered all the more for it. Leland suffered because of a broken promise, but he did not say so. It was better not to think of that at all.

"Well, I’m sticking around because I think that maybe there is something here fer me, I jus’ haven’t found it yet. Maybe it’s not in one of the packs." It was true, it felt like something was calling to him here on some days, but on others Leland did wonder why he didn’t pack up and leave. If he didn’t find it soon enough it would be time to move on, but Leland had a feeling that kept him sticking around, just for a while longer. "I suspect that you, too, have a reason fer sticking around here. There’s gotta be something holding you here besides yerself, otherwise you’d have left if yer so miserable here. So what is it? Why do you stay?"
