The sky was as grey as his mood. Beneath it, the ocean churned in a dark shade of slate blue, adding more grey tones to the dreary atmosphere. It'd been two days since his return to Dahlia, and though he'd visited the house he'd shared with Alexey, he had yet to move back in. Things were decidedly rocky between the former lovebirds, and Drey had no desire to fracture things even more by being constantly around her. Complicating matters was the fact that Haku's half-grown son had moved in during Drey's absence, and it was quite clear that Conor had taken the foremost place in Alexey's heart. If the Stormbringer moved back in too soon (if at all, to be honest), it would likely make the boy uncomfortable, which would sour things with Alexey even further. No, he couldn't even think about returning to the house until he'd had ample time to get to know the boy who now called it home.
Emerald eyes stared out absently across the sea as he sighed. The male sat cross-legged on a large grey rock overlooking the beach, his sides moving softly as he breathed in the world. It had only been two months that he'd been away, and yet so much had changed. He was alone this time; the sister who'd been his original reason for coming to Dahlia was now recovering from a nightmarish ordeal back in the Valley, her mate by her side. Drey knew she and Elliott would probably return eventually, but he could wait no longer. When he finally had word that Kol would survive to recover fully, he'd quickly said his important farewells and slipped out in the middle of the night. His single thought had been getting back to Lexey.
It hadn't taken very long to make the journey, though he'd had to rest often as his still-healing body had been sapped of its healthy stamina in the months before. He knew to expect the woman's anger when he returned, but he hadn't expected for her to take so long to overcome it once she knew what had happened. It wasn't as if Drey and Kol had deliberately abandoned her, after all. Then again, he was also aware that women tended to hold onto intense emotion longer than men for whatever reason, and betrayal and anger were two of the most stubborn emotions he knew of. For Lexey, he'd wait.
The male sighed as he shifted his weight slightly. He'd already been sitting there for more than an hour, but he had no idea of the passage of time. Today, all that mattered was getting his jumbled thoughts and feelings in order, and the seemingly abandoned expanse of Whisper Beach seemed the perfect place for such an endeavor.
