His heart was pounding. And now it not only fueled by the anger towards himself, and the stallion but also the worry that he now held for Lumière. She would be a mother, and with that came complications. He had hoped to plan this, to create a schedule that made everything fall into the right season. It was not a devastating thing to happen now, though Heath was unsure if she had foaled in the past, or if this was her first. Would she know what to do? How would he save her is something when awry?

The male stood between the two horses, his back to the dark stallion and facing the mare. When she spoke his name he ignored her. His hand still on the dappled blue abdomen. He knew not if the movement beneath the muscle was a figment of his imagination or not, but he knew what was happening. He wanted to press his nose into her mane and stroke her neck, to speak the soft words of praise the came to him from the small part that was happy for her and her condition. But he was stern, the anger over shadowing anything that might resemble happiness.

“He’s the sire to her litter.” He said with obvious distain. The wolfen words for young flowing from his tongue so easily because of his current anger. How long had the stallion been in place beside Lumière? How long had he and his mistress even been here at all? Not long, and already there was an upset. He had no true complaints about their presence, until now. Heath cleared his throat, and then looked back at the female. His eyes were daggers. Again, the questions rolled through him mind, unable to forget how such horrible things could go wrong for a mare that was in the process of giving birth. He had read the books, he knew the risks. Or course he had never been there, never kept vigil and waited to assist with the other mares that had foaled in the past. This was different of course, he could not loose Lumière.
