the wind will be wailing

She stood with the shell between her fingers. It was of a medium size, a bit smaller then that of an oyster, it’s shape rounded and without the small scalloped bumps. She examined it, the soft white base and bright purple hues that speckled it. It captured her for a moment, just as most colorful things did. She dusted the sand off of it, lightly moving it away as to not scratch the surface. She hesitated putting the beautiful thing in the bag with the rest, worried that its surface four become dull against the others.

The call of the ocean, and it salty air might have been what kept the Church female from noticing another walking along the beach. Though it was likely the thoughts of whom the shells would be given to that made it hard for Mati to see beyond her own nose. It was so easy for her to get lost in those visions, memories of her lover’s claws raking her back causing her to stare into a slight daze.

The voice caught her off guard, making the Dreamer step to the side and look for the maker of the greeting. She turned her head, violet eyes finding the figure of a wolf and a horse walking along the beach just as she. Mati swallowed, her eyes watching the four-legged creature rather then the one with two. She clutched the shell, holding it against her chest and unable to look away from pair. Hello She spoke, knowing that she could not run for it would only make her seem foolish, and still not wanting to be too close to the black horse. The stranger did not seem hostile, but Mati knew she could easily be deceived, and it was the other creature that filled the woman with such instant distrust.
