Her answer did not provide him with any more information than what he deserved, he supposed. It had to mean that they all were alive and well still, and what more could one hope for? He did not understand how she could leave her family behind like that, but she had spoken of her Dream and though he could not understand it, this was evidently important enough to leave her loved ones behind, though probably only temporarily. Lilac eyes studied the blue mark’s enchanting her face and wondered if she would be here for long. He could not deny her—she was the former sub-leader and had been wonderful at it. Her personality was stable and aesthetic, and Dahlia could need another helping hand to support it, no matter how temporary it would be.

He nodded as she spoke pretty, wise words, but he could not fully participate in the optimism in her words. It had all been so ugly and there had been so much loss. Peace was here, but ghosts walked the streets at night and everyone had lost people they knew and cared for. And sometimes, things were beyond repair. He did not wish to think so though. Dahlia de Mai needed to live as it once had when he was a stupid, young puppy. ”This is your home for as long as you want it to be,” the boy chose to admit, believing in a freer world than his father and others before him. Her final words teased his sensitive ears and he shook his head in firm defiance. ”I don’t know what to do.”

The title was pretty and important, but Conor was no one special. He had taken the title because someone needed to, but he was no more important than anyone else and he did not at all know what to do. Dahlia survived because they had learned to stand together. He was weak, but he had found people who cared for him and helped keep him sane. Friendship and love was what kept the pack alive, but would it be enough?
