300+ *fail*

Kansas didn't hear the yelp of his child, drowned by the sound of the thunder and of his own exclamation of surprise. The slim werewolf was completely startled when the plush feel of puppy fur brushed against his hind legs, tickling his calves. Immediately, he looked away from the window and down behind him, wondering which of his children sought him. There, huddled frightfully against his limbs, was Parker. Her expression was one of fear, but her wide golden eyes and trembling lips were too much for the man to keep his smile at bay. He remembered well fearing thunderstorms as a young child. There was something unsettling about flashing lights and booming noise that came from the sky, especially without the understanding of nature and its storms.

Oh, sweetest pea, he said with an encouraging smile, stooping to grab his daughter around her delicate ribs with gentle hands. Hoping to make her smile, he swung her about in a brief circle and touched noses with her before cradling her to his chest, his hold soft and sure. He turned with her to face the window, but the father kept them a farther distance away from the already-chipped glass now that his baby was in his arms — if the wind blew too strongly, the window could become a hazard. I know thunder sounds scary, but it won't hurt you. It's just part of the storm. The cinnamon and sugar girl had been truly frightened, and he wanted her to know the truth about nature's fury so she would understand that her fear was unneeded. He held her against his chest with one arm and used the other to point at the deep gray sky. Here baby, watch for the lightning. It made the noise you heard — the thunder will happen after. He fell silent, waiting for the flash from outdoors.
