It couldn’t be his fault. Not again. He opened his mouth to speak, intending to tell her this. At that moment, her hand came flying up and caught him in the face, in his jaw. Gabriel’s teeth clicked together smartly and he felt them close on his tongue. Blood filled his mouth and he swore, spat, and a vicious growl escaped his throat. For a moment, he looked ready to rip her limb from limb—and the hand around her arm tightened, claws digging into skin.

His tone was more dangerous then a scream. “You getting killed isn’t going to help him.” He spat again, flecks of blood flying onto his fur. “Arkham is going to find us,” he said with certainty. “We have to go, Rachias.” Another mouthful of blood went to the ground, and he looked up with a start as another explosion rocked the ground to the north. “Come on,” he said, pulling her with him as he began to head towards the others.
