It was always best to become acquainted with a partner before beginning any sort of partnership. If he had Niro jump on the mares back right now they two would not have confidence in one another and someone would get hurt. And it would likely be Niro. Then what would anyone learn? Heath did not consider himself a wise wolf, and he was not exactly the best example when it came to life lessons. But in the ring he was confident and his instincts did not steer him wrong. He had learned to read a horse, and his natural sense of reading his own kind helped when teaching others to work with the hoofed beasts. The only other he could trust to do the same was Anann, her horse sense was perfect in his eyes.

He gave the instructions slowly and waited for him to give a nod before moving to the next step. The snugness of the saddle was emphasized, for Heath was always strict about the horse’s comfort.
