OOC here: 508 words

The young coyote boy simply assumed that everyone spoke German, even though most that he had come across didn't speak a single word of it. Even so it hadn't stopped him from trying that as a first option. He could never tell who would be able to understand unless he actually tried. After all there had been one outside of his family to have understood what he said even if she hadn't bothered to respond in German. For all he knew there could be more out there like that. Could be more that understood even if they couldn't speak it themselves. So what did it hurt to try his natural language first? And if it didn't work then he could switch to English. Everyone seemed to know English at least. It was the one language that he seemed able to count on. To be able to fall back on. The one that everyone could comprehend and speak. But at least he could use his native tongue with his own family at least. With them he would be able to converse freely instead of carefully choosing words. That could sometimes be difficult since he didn't want the wrong meaning to come across. And with his accent he had trouble on few words and his English came out broken instead of fluent and flowing like his German did.

Once the other spoke his lack of comprehension it was easy for Izaak to switch tongues. Or at least to know to switch languages. "Was wrong? Whys yous no stands? Whys funny coyote on yous arm?" The words were translated in the best fashion that he could come up with. Sure, the sentences weren't properly strung together and there were added plurals that weren't really needed. But given the struggle through the accent he did a mighty fine job. His questions should at least be understood despite the grammar fail. But at least he had tried to speak as clearly as possible through his accent rather than slurring the words together.

Just for the added effect of just what he was speaking about he pointed to the bird that was perched on Niro. So far the coyote recognized everything as what he was, a coyote. He considered them all deformed versions of himself. Like Niro was an extra fluffy coyote. The child didn't know anything about different species. He had never been taught that and so just referred to everything as a coyote on his first encounter with it. It would take quite a bit of teaching for him to learn. Something that he didn't really get when he was a pup. The only thing that he was actually adept at were "happy endings" courtesy of his mother. It was the only thing that she was interested in, besides drinking and smoking, and so had taught her pups what it meant for her to have a good time. It was a subject that irked his Unky Cotl when he learned about it. Something that the older coyote male considered to be wrong.
