There was slight pressure from a dainty paw and then the sharp pain of needle-fine teeth. Gabriel clenched his jaw and began kicking against the water. His large paws worked like paddles, however ungraceful they were, and soon enough he and his companion were caught up in the waves that were moving towards shore. Twice Gabriel was pulled away from the sand, but on the third attempt, his feet hit the ground. With several loping gaits he was on the shore, and quite relieved when the fox released his neck.
Shaking the water out of his coat left the Aquila looking much broader then he had been, though until the thick fur dried completely, the multitude of scars along his sides would be visible. They were usually hidden, and Gabriel wished they would remain so. He was not proud of them. He was not proud of any of his scars. Flicking his ears with a snort, the coy-wolf sat and nodded to the smaller creature. “Better?”
