Being in the water was such a strange thing. Unlike the air that surrounded his body at any other time, the ocean had a force that was difficult to fight against. His limbs felt like lead as he maneuvered through the water. He was not used to such exercise, and he breathed hard as he raced both Denali and the waves back to shore. The sapling had the same difficulty as his esteemed colleague with keeping his head above the surface, several times choking on salty water and feeling his sinuses prickle as it rushed into his nostrils.
After a hard struggle, they were finally on the sand again. Oak coughed up water and sneezed mightily, taking a deep breath when he was through. The sand was sticking to his fur and paws. It wouldn't have bothered him were it not so itchy. As Denali spoke, Oak flopped down on his rump, eyes at half-mast as the wonderful sun chased the cold of the ocean from his body. Tha's why yous a lot better swimmer than me, he panted, smiling. This is the first time I ever swimmed. Oak turned around the face the ocean, its waves gaping at him like the jaws of a docile beast. The sea was still beautiful, but he was a land-wolf, glad to be out of its grasp. Only a few moments in the water, and he was all done with it. He just wanted to look at it now and to sun himself dry on the beach.
