It was rare for him to be awake at such an odd hour, as late as it was. The King woke early each day, so it was strange for him to find himself up so late, but there was nothing that could be done. Vigilante simply couldn't sleep, for whatever reason that was beyond him. He looked to his mate beside him in bed, sleeping peacefully, and sighed. He was not sure what was plaguing him and robbing him of his sleep, but he was glad that it did not seem to be doing the same for her. Ayita needed her rest as much as possible, considering she was roughly a month along in her pregnancy.

Quietly and without moving the bed more than a small bit, the caramel-colored man rose from the bed, easing the door shut behind him as he left their bedroom. He did not know what he was going to do with himself, but he knew that sleep was nowhere within his grasp, so it was no use lying in bed and staring at the ceiling. Perhaps what he needed was a walk, he decided, though he had no destination in mind. The brisk autumn air would likely help clear his head, and it would probably help him sleep when he returned home, he hoped.

He left the house as quietly as he had left the bedroom, bracing himself against the temperature. Winter would be coming soon, he knew. Perhaps that was part of why he did not seem as happy as he should about the prospect of being a father; having pups born in the middle of December did not seem the safest thing for them. He sighed once more and began walking away from the house, face turned down agains the wind and the bitter cold.
