Kansas used to think that the world was too dark, and too full of misery. He saw no reason to do the right thing, and he plodded along seeking the immediate, but temporarily satisfying pleasures that his bleak life had to offer. It was amazing how his perspective had shifted after he and Savina found one another. Suddenly, he had something to cherish forever, a reason to get up in the morning and smile. He could look into the future with certainty and happiness because he knew that he would always have someone to love. Many lived the way he used to their entire lives, which was very depressing. He didn't understand why everyone couldn't have what he had. The world would be a much happier place.
Kansas nodded somberly at her words. I do too, he said, knowing how difficult it was at times to keep a relationship going. It took incredible patience and diligence, but as time passed, it also became easier. What Mati ended with was a perfect analogy. He was beginning to realize how insightful this girl was, and he was impressed. Yeah, you're right. Like your painting, too, he added with a grin, ready for the conversation to take on a lighter tone. After a moment of indecision, he took his guitar into his lap and simply looked down at it, admiring the wood, the strings. Composing his own music would be, for him, the ultimate means of expression. He was impatient to get to that point, but that only meant that he would practice harder. And he was learning quickly. He believed that he had at last found his natural talent, like Mati's in art.
Of their own accord, his fingers danced down the strings of the guitar, emitting a soft, pretty sound. He planned to stay in this spot for a few hours and practice, but he wondered what Mati's plans had been before their encounter. What... what are you going to do? Were you looking for something to paint?
