The mid-afternoon romp Tony had had with Lorenzo had kept the young two month old preoccupied for most of mid-morning into the afternoon, but he had left his younger brother to his own devices afterwards in favor of pursuing some other activity. He had found himself closer to the south of the territory when he realized how far he had gone. He could feel the ocean breeze--chilling, cutting through his own puppy-fur--but chased after the smell of the salt winds. Even in the winter, seagulls gathered to ride the lazy winds, eyes keen for fish below the unfrozen sea. But that wasn't what really got his attention the closer he got. Instead, Tony caught whiff of a stranger; in their pack lands. The thought of an intruder in their pack made Tony very angry, and he felt his tiny hackles raise. He didn't care if the wolf was an adult; he would defend his pack.

With small hops to jump through the snow, Tony made his trail--a series of sporadic holes in the ice--to the area of what his father had told him was an empty den. But that was also where the strange smell was strongest. Setting his hackles and steeling his courage, Tony marched right up to the entrance and held his head low with his tail up. "Common' out', whoevers you are!" He would make his dad and mom proud, chasing out a stranger. It never occured to the pup the differences in strength and experience, let alone if the stranger was really a stranger...
