M - Misery Loves Its Company

Sorry this is comparatively short! I promise the next one will be longer. Just wrote a novel in another thread so I'm a bit drained, lmao. :] SSWM: 622

Kesho had been patrolling these sacred borders with increased frequency since he'd heard of the death of Izaak Ulrich, the young, strange boy with the silvery, rust-colored pelt, who surely had a golden heart. The old man recalled the kid's pet reindeer, and smiled to himself, for once sadly. Truthfully, Izaak had not been an incredibly valuable asset to Inferni, but Kesho had been of the school of thought that believed that he could have been, with work. Now, though, any and all potential had been squashed by those dirty Anathema wolves. Kesho couldn't help but let out a low growl as he thought about it; more ruthless killing, unnecessary battling between species. If ever he encountered those Anathema demons, they would have a fight on their hands, without a second thought. Fucking wolves, thinking they can just go and kill any fucking coyote... he thought angrily, walking faster now, on two legs, strangely.

It was strange that he'd preferred his Optime form today, but the ache in his joints and muscles had been particularly bothering him, and this form, oddly enough, helped relieve some of that pain, if only for a few hours. He stopped for a moment, stretching his sore arms and legs carefully, twirling his head around in attempt to capture any scents on the breeze that rolled through. Though he failed to recognize it's origin, he clearly scented an Inferni canine; that musky smell was unmistakable. There was something else, there, too, and the old man strained to discern it. Was it equine? He was unsure as his quarry was still a slight way away, and the breeze now ran away from him.

Kesho broke into brisk walk, following his nose strictly now as his red eyes remained alert, searching for the living being that was surely waiting at the end of this trail. He was getting closer now, nearing the skull decorated line, noticing the very light presence of another familiar scent. Kesho's eyes narrowed, curious, cautious, and instinctively defensive. As he neared, the figures appeared together in his vision, their figure merged into one; canine on top of equine. Kesho grunted vaguely at the idea of a coyote--or whatever he was-- riding a horse, but that was another issue altogether. He approached the man, slowly and cautiously. He held the look of a coyote, mostly; he was orange, with a black nose, and lighter coloring underneath. The beast that he rode on was a black and white creature, looking as crazed as it's rider, who, as Kesho came closer, was found to be holding a skull. Red eyes stared at the thing as he nodded a stiff greeting to the stranger. This creep smelled so strongly of Inferni, but Kesho couldn't help but feel he was up to something strange.

"Who are you and what have you got there, stranger?" he asked, his tone intense, demanding, but not entirely hostile. He knew where to draw the line, and he would not attack a fellow clansmen without reason. Even with reason, it would be a far stretch to get him to betray his loyalty by fighting with other members. "That skull looks too small to be wolf." he commented, his voice gruff and yes, a bit accusing. Just what was going on?

The old man looked over this dark, pierced stranger once again, noticing now the bright orange, silver, and creme pelt draped across his shoulders; his hackles raised and a chill shook through his body. No, that can't be... he couldn't help but think, as a snarl formed on his lips without sound. Maybe a good explanation would help this, but Kesho doubted it.
