Slade could name another thing that adult coyotes weren't supposed to do: jump at sudden greetings. However, when he suddenly heard a call from a nearby house, he was genuinely startled. Apparently his myopia had caused him to completely miss the fact that there was someone on the porch of one of the wooden houses. Slade turned to the direction of the voice, squinting for a moment as he tried to differentiate the canine from the wood. He managed to make out a tawny-colored canine - not a wolf, not a dog, maybe a mix between the two - leaning on the railings of the porch.
Slade walked up to the edge of the porch below the wolfdog and sat down; while she was still somewhat blurry to him, he wasn't about to walk onto her porch without being invited. He kept his tail flat on the ground, and while he didn't quite look the wolfdog in the eyes he wasn't overly submissive. How was he supposed to know if she was higher or lower in rank than him? She was certainly a member of his pack, of course, as Slade assumed that she owned the wooden house they were near.
"Hello," Slade greeted casually. "I didn't notice you before, sorry." He wasn't quite sure what else to say; the weather wasn't particularly unique in any way, the dim evening light wasn't unusually dark or bright, and he wasn't going to ask for an invitation to sit down on the home of a stranger. He instead noticed that the wolfdog was one of the few canines who was in their Lupus form, given they were Luperci. Based on the way she stood on her hind legs, Slade guessed she was a Luperci. He was glad that she wasn't in Ortus form, given his predictions about her species were right, as he had started to really dislike the way others towered over him when they stood on two legs.
