Orin stood vigil since she sent the letter with the courier. It had never occurred to her that the diplomatic, lone wolf might have just taken her payment and tossed her letter away, not bothering himself to actually trek to the Court to deliver the message to Niro. If she were a little more street smart she would have only paid him half, and waited for him to return later to receive the other half. According to the wolf he delivered letters all the time. It was just by a stroke of luck that the wolf was actually an honest post man.

The woman sat on her porch, her hands resting above her on the railing while her legs swung over the side. She poked at the snow with her toes and stared blankly out into the square. She was still weak, still too thin, but thanks to revealing her pregnancy to Shawchert, she was now getting much better. This was her first day back at her bookstore instead of slumbering in Shawchert's hut.

Of course, it had been more than a day since she sent the letter. The courier was honest, but had no reason to kill himself by sprinting the miles between here and Cour des Miracles. She waited impatiently the whole time, wondering when Niro would show up, wanting to head to the border and wait for him there. But she could not, not in her condition. So instead, she waited with her doors and windows open, waiting for his call.

And finally it came. Her ears perked and swiveled. There was not just one howl, but many. Like a knight in shining armor, Niro answered to the call of duty once again! And now she could tell him. Now she could finally tell him about everything that had happened over the last few weeks. What would he think?

She didn't waste time pondering. She slipped forward, eking out into the snow by sliding under the banister. Her sheepskin cloak was draped over her thin form, and she pulled it tight as she trekked out into the threatening winter. It was easy to pinpoint his location with all of his urgent calls, but Orin could not run to him like she wanted to, like she would have. Instead, she settled on a brisk walk that would not stress out her tired muscles or the puppies that struggled for life inside of her.

Soon she was moving through the brush near the borders, and with the horse nearby it was easy for her to slide through the right coupling of trees. Her golden eyes fell upon the silver angel that was her brother, and although she was overcoming most of her depression, the sight of him summoned a torrent of emotion. She could not help the tears that trailed down her cheeks as she rushed over to him and threw her arms around his shoulder.

“Niro! Oh, Niro! It's so good to see you. Things have been so hard lately. You'll never believe what happened.” She buried her face in his fur, reveling in the comfortable familiarity of her brother's scent.
