Family Bonding

Sorry for the wait. Agh!

The excitement and joy that swelled in the young girl at the recognition of their family name caused much of Pripyat’s doubt and anxiety to wash away. So weary was he of most family matters that he couldn’t help but hold carrying some sort of pessimism with him, even when he swore up and down that he would only look on the sunny side of matters. His family, his family, he loved without reserve. But that was truly limited to Jefferson, Geneva and Addison. The others that came and went and introduced themselves as if they belonged, one had to be doubtful of them. Jefferson, Geneva and Addison were stable, secure. They weren’t coming and going like the others. They weren’t a mystery. They were never cruel or caustic like the woman from Inferni. Or strange and slightly scary like Miriette, but only after Jefferson had warned Pripyat against his own sister. Yet little Melee seemed like neither, she was just a child, and she couldn’t help it what her own name was.

"Yes. We do have the same name. We must have some family in common, aye?" His voice was ever warm and friendly, but he didn’t quite know what to do with this discovery. And maybe it didn’t matter. Maybe he wasn’t supposed to do anything. Yet there were questions that had surged up from the darker parts of his mind, triggered by the familiarity of his own name, and he couldn’t quite keep himself from asking them. "Who are you parents? Maybe they know my father, Jefferson Soul." Maybe, or maybe not. Who really cared and what did it matter?
