The one with the wolf in the water

That simple baby talk already told her father that none of his children would speak as poorly as he did. Salvia had a slight twang in her voice, but it was likely that would fade. They sounded more like their mother, who spoke clearly and used proper enunciation. This was good. Many wolves he had met in the past had thought Larkspur’s speech made him stupid—they were mistaken. For all of his simple behaviors, all of his base instincts, Larkspur was remarkably fast when it came to learning certain things. He understood undercurrents of tone in speech, and had picked up on sarcasm and lying quickly. It was a skill he did not enjoy, finding deception base. He rarely lied. He had no need for such things.

Like a small kitten, the white girl rubbed herself against his legs, thankfully careful of his large feet and claws. He dropped down to be closer to her size, though he still towered over her. Walking on four legs in this form was not as easy as it was in lupus, but the man adapted to the needs presented. She needed him to be smaller, and it would make seeing the world from her eyes easier. “Yer sister is with th’horses an’ I ain’t seen yer brother yet.” He had intended to look for him after finding this one, but she seemed very eager to show off what she had re-found. “All by yerself, eh? How did y’find it again?” It was a test, albeit it a simple one. She likely tracked a scent, but he was curious. He had worried about her development as her size flat lined next to her larger siblings.
