He could sense that Princess was scared, and that did nothing to help his own nerves. Even though his sister and her mate were calm and said that everything was proceeding as normal, he couldn't help but be distressed when his mate was frightened. Haven was the one to fight away her fears, to drive them back and keep her safe, but there was nothing he could do in this situation. In fact, he was the very reason she was in this situation. The Aatte didn't have the same distinct worries that Princess did, simply assuming that nature would take its course and make whatever adjustments were necessary. It didn't matter that there was nothing particular that worried him now though, for the woman he loved was in pain and afraid because of him and it broke his heart. The man, too, was temporarily blind to what awaited them, completely focused on what was happening at that moment.
Difficult as it was, the Knight tried to draw upon the cool confidence of the other women in the room and he rested the hand not clasped by Princess to her shoulder, hoping to give her additional support. Soon more contractions wracked her body and he was surprised at the pressure that she clutched his hand with. It really must hurt her horribly. Bi-colored ears fell back once more. He felt so guilty. Was having children really worth all this? He wanted to believe that it was, but right now it wasn't easy. Princess said she thought it was time and his ears came forward again, eyes growing wide. Haven's breath held in his chest, waiting to see what would happen next. There was such a swirl of excitement and anxiety in him that he didn't know which emotion he felt more acutely. Soon enough it would become clear though.
