OOC:

Valinta nodded as Dalmatian slowed to a halt. J'adore kissed her on the cheek, and smiling, Valinta waved as she turned Dali towards the beach. "See you later, J'adore!" Valinta called over her shoulder. Dalmatian shook his head dramatically and neighed, being his typical flamboyant self.

"You're so silly..." Valinta whispered to him as she watched the horizon. It never came closer, it was always so far away from her. She had wondered if she could ever reach it, as a child. Now; halfway around the world, Valinta supposed that it would always be just out of reach.

A sound. Valinta heard something. Her ear twitching, she carefully dismounted Dalmatian, whispering "Stay." in his ear. Valinta crept towards the sound, and knelt. She crawled the last few feet in shallow snow, and felt one of her hands not hit the ground anymore. Quickly pulling back, the female look down over the edge, and saw two lumps of fur.

"Hello?" she called down. The two bundles moved, and an arm was discerned. It appeared to be a woman and something else. The arm fell limply, revealing a small pup with scraggly black fur, half coated in snow. The face on the child told Valinta things that something that small shouldn't. The arm, or the woman it was attacked to, did not move after the child beneath it did.

The woman, from what Valinta could see of her, looked very much like the baby. She swallowed sadly, reaching the conclusion that that was the child's mother, and she had died recently. The poor baby. He had to have been freezing. On the beach during a snow storm.

Valinta slowly began to climb down, and soon reached the ground. Grunting, she hefted up the frozen body of the pup's mother, and carefully carried it a few feet towards the turbulant waters, that remained unfrozen. The woman who, it seemed, had died protecting her baby, would get an honerable burial at sea.

Muttering a quick prayer in Russian, Valinta waded into the frigid waters and carefully laid the woman's body into them. Her fur was soaked quickly, as the body bobbed underneath the surface and then floated away with the current. Going back to the shore, Valinta's teeth chattered as she stepped out of the water, and scooped up the pup.

Holding him to her chest, one of the only really dry parts of her, Valinta nuzzled the chilled child with her nose. "What's your name, little one?" Valinta asked him while she shivered. "It's Gunnar," the boy replied softly. "Gunnar Donte." He nuzzled Valinta's thick chest fur, and shivered slowly.

Valinta had been right. The poor boy was nearly frozen.

Holding him tightly against her with one arm, Valinta started to slowly climb the rocks she climbed down to get to Gunnar. Suddenly her foot slipped, and pain radiated from her thigh. Valinta cried. Gunnar squeaked in fear and cuddled up against her. "It's okay, Gunnar." the woman said through clenched fangs, her face in a fearsome scowl of pain.

"After this, you'll be my son, Gunnar. Is that okay?" Valinta asked of the boy. He nodded solemnly, and nuzzled her neck. "Yes Momma." he whispered. Valinta smiled, enjoying the feeling of his breath against her neck. He more than filled the void that Gloria's death left.

"After this, we'll meet your daddy, Gunnar. I think you'll like J'adore. He's big and strong, and he's the nicest man you'll ever meet." Valinta whispered to her new son. She rested her chin on his head briefly, before looking up and calling out, trying to keep a desperate note out of her voice for Gunnar's sake.

"J'adore!" she yelled, almost frantically. "J'adore!"

Valinta does. "Valinta speaks." Valinta thinks.
