Upon a nest of pelts and blankets, the new mother lay curled around her infant pups. All were slumbering blissfully. It had not been a week since the babes were born, and both mother and pups were still tired from the business of birth. Orin was doing well and the three little bundles were as well as to be expected; the runt, Titania, despite being the runt, was healthy. She was small and strong. The other little girl, Juliet, was not as well as her siblings, but Alaine had provided all the care she could for the young one and her future was looking bright, now it was just up to Orin and the pack to keep her warm, safe, and well fed, and they were sure she would survive. The boy, Demetrius, well he was no worry at all, except for the fact that he liked to hog Orin's milk. She had to watch him sometimes or he would leave nothing for his sisters. The sleepy mother gave her son a loving lick.

That was when she heard a faint clatter come from upstairs. She woke immediately and jerked her head up. The pups, huddled at her belly, squeaked their protest to her sudden movement, then fell silently into sleep again. Orin cocked her head, ears perked and listening for another sound, but there was none. Still, she better see what that was. Maybe the shutter hadn't been repaired as well as she thought?

The wolfess slowly inched herself away from the precious fuzz balls at her side and raised to her paws. Orin had not seen her Optime form since her birth. It felt more natural this way, and, after all, it would be hard to feed three pups in a hominid body.

She trotted quickly over to the stairs but before she pranced up she noticed the door was closed. With a sigh, she backpedaled and laid down. She needed to change if she wanted to get through that door.

Minutes later, Orin was in her Optime form again for the first time since the birth of her children. The woman stood, brushing herself off, and hurried up the stairs. She opened the door and stepped into the makeshift bedroom, glancing around. It was dark up here, barely any light filtered in from the fading day. She scanned the room and finally noticed a board on the floor. She moved over to it and crouched, picking it up. “That's odd...”
