The silence was worse than yelling, it didn’t give Niro anything to grasp onto, so when Vigilante spoke it felt like the king had froze every part of Niro’s body. The words were like venom to the man, and he could tell that Vigilante was angry. Niro was still nothing more than a pup to the man next to him and he moved submissivly, knowing it was the time to make sure that he showed Vigil he’d do anything for the king, no matter what. That his daughter was not going to be alone, not in this ordeal. The next thing Vigilante had to say made Niro cringe. He had looked at it that way, and he had worried about it, but he knew deep down that he was Amaranths’ only. He just didn’t think it would actually be thrown back in his face.
“I’ve a faithful wolf. Amaranth is my mate, I would never go behind her back.”
Which was true, in fact, he hadn’t even known about Vigil’s niece until after she came with the pups. He remembered meeting her yes, having a drink with her yes, but anything after that, no. He knew something happened now... now that there was proof, but it wasn’t like he’d already been mated to Amaranth at the time... to anyone. He could understand where Vigilante was going, and couldn’t blame him, yet he felt he should, because he’d not been with any other females besides Amaranth since he asked her to be his mate. He couldn’t really say anymore though, his defense had been put up, and it was up to Vigilante to believe it or not. He doubted it, at least at this moment he doubted the king would want to see Niro as a good wolf, not after he announced Amaranth’s pregnancy.
