The passage of time was lost on Cypress as he lay basking in the morning sun. It could have been hours or a few dozen minutes for all he knew. Either way he was content to continue to lay just where he was, soaking up the warmth that the sun offered him. And so long as those blue eyes remained hidden from the world the youth was able to convince himself that winter was gone and the seasons had moved on to greener days. An illusion, but one he was happy to cling to while he could. Anything to break winter’s hold.
For much of the morning, the boy did appear to be asleep. Though, if watched long enough, one would see his ears turn, listening the sounds of daily life around the manor and hear the sound of his tail thumping loudly to those that walked by his prone form on the porch. Half awake, half a sleep, he drifted between the two worlds. Though he thought himself awake the whole time. He was completely unaware how easily his mind was slipping away into fantasy. Only to be called back by the next loud noise within the manor or the footfalls of a passerby.
It was impossible to know just how awake he really was in the moments just prior the gentle touch of his brother's nose. His tail thumped hard against wood boards of the porch in response. "Yea," he responded, the single word leaving his maw reluctantly and chased by jaw splitting yawn. "I'm awake." Though he yawned again as he stretched. Before finally pulling his legs under himself and looking to his older brother through half lidded eyes. His nose curled at the sight of clumps of snow still clinging to Oak's legs. He groaned, looking away and laying his head down on his paws. Eyes closed once again. It was a reality he just didn't want to deal with right now.
