I am the night

Oh how she envied him. He was muscle and sinew and night-colored, much larger than her, larger than most, and he would only continue to grow. She saw it now, the way his fur rose from his shoulders like wings, and knew he would become something far different than Tak. What malice now lived in him was foreign and the girl envied him for feeling the depth of such a betrayal. Her own fury felt soft next to his, fake. This was perhaps her own doing; she had slowly begun to lose her emotions in the wake of this new adult world.

She stared at him, wishing to capture him as she had tried to capture Sirius, knowing that the power she held over animals would not be the same as one held over men. Yet this vision was magnificent and perhaps until he was older, until they fought in actual battle and knew the rage she had seen their father display, he would never look as beautiful. “I’ll always love you Pan,” she whispered, her voice throaty, husky, womanly. It was only a hint of what one day it would become, for she was still a child. She knew, though, that this would never change. No one, nothing, could make her stop loving this beast made of starlight and shadow.
