indent Oh God, that noise. It sunk into his skull and made him mad. That noise sounded like pain and death come too soon, like the sound of war and the sound of weakness. A manic and ragged sort of laughter escaped his chest, a doggish sound that could have been a snarl, a growl, a bark. He was laughing as he struck the stranger, moving his hind legs to brace himself for another such attack. He wanted to crack ribs and hear that noise again, hear that terrible whimper, that plea, everything his mother had ever taught him to hunger for.
