Mom was going nuts. Gunnar came home from watching the sunrise (a normal passtime for him these days) and in thinking his mother would still be asleep, he'd snuck in through the front door...
...in optime form.
Unfortunatly, she was awake. The boy glanced over as he crept into the main room and froze dead when he saw his mother through the bedroom doorway, up and dressed and already hard at work at another one of her safety binges. He sucked in a breath and took a step back, instantly focusing his mind on the change.
Maybe she hadn't seen him yet. Maybe he'd get away without being caught.
It wasn't like he didn't want her knowing about his shifting. He wanted her to know! She'd be so proud! But more, he wanted her to treat him like an adult for once. He was a Zepar! That meant he was in an adult rank! He could do anything the other older wolves could do.
But he knew his mother. The moment she saw fingers, she'd flip shit over how much he'd grown or something. She'd probably cry. He hated it when she did that. When he was a pup, it hadn't been so bad, but now that he was older...
Too bad shifting hurt. As it started, he groaned a bit and had to stop. It wasn't as bad as it had been the first time but he still didn't like the pinching feeling he got, especially in those new scars he had. A quick and quiet shift wasn't an option for him just yet.
