It hurt far too much to be this close, so close and yet still beyond reach. It was not that Anann wanted to leave. Well, not exactly. This was just proving too difficult, to be faced with his presence and touch while knowing that once the storm was gone she would have to leave again. She had never wanted to leave him, but she had never bothered to explain, either. What good would it do? She doubted he would have stayed away like he had if he had known the whole truth. The first time had tore out her heart even though it had been her own doing. Was it not better to keep the distance here and now than to carve out another hole in her chest later?
Her eyes came back from their gaze across the room to look back to his face and the gentle pleading in his eyes as he asked her just talk. ”Fine,” she said with a defeated tone and exasperated sigh. ”Just...not about us.” It was but a request as she looked at him with pleading eyes. Yes, she just wanted play pretend. As if this had never happened, as if they had never happened.
