Vesper narrowed her eyes thoughtfully when she was told that she didn’t smell like a coyote. While canines relied heavily on olfactory senses as a rule, she didn’t understand the concept of someone who didn’t rely on visual or other clues as well. Ves liked to think she was more coyote than wolf (even if she was genetically half and half), though despite her slender and angular features and big ears, it was obvious that she was a hybrid.
She opened her mouth, thought better of it, and nodded instead. “Like the rest of your pack, then?” she questioned lightly, glancing past her and the skull decorations at the territory. She decided against informing this coyote girl of her parentage. Saying that she was a coyote would likely confuse her, and admitting that she was part wolf—or stinky, she realized—might be disastrous. She had no doubt she could take on the runty pup if she got violent, but it wouldn’t make a good impression on the rest of her comrades.
She smirked faintly as the young luperci confirmed that stinkies weren’t difficult prey. “Do you smell any now?” Vesper asked, glancing back into the forest where she’d been lurking. “I could help you if one gets close. Right now, though, I need to go easy.” She turned to display the leg that had been bitten by the bear; it wasn’t a debilitating wound, but she knew that bouncing around on that limb wouldn’t help it heal. “Maybe we could look for them, and you can get your friends or family to hunt them,” she suggested. She wasn’t prejudiced against wolves, but if there were anti-coyote ones lurking, it would probably be safer to let Inferni take care of them.
