He rode casually, in no hurry whatsoever, and with no attempt at being stealthy, something he had been training Yegua to be. There was no need to rush up on Vesper unannounced, he was sure it would startle the Vigiles, she tended to be somewhat jumpy. As he rode, he thought about his brothers once more, and also his missing sister; she had been heavy on his mind as of late. It was becoming more tense for the siblings, Helotes could tell they were torn just as he was between staying with their new pack and going to search for their sister. Helotes continued to reassure himself that she was more than capable of taking care of herself, but the tradition of doting over his little sister was hard to kill.
As Helotes neared the border he was assaulted by a myriad of scents, all of them familiar and uninteresting, but then a scent came to him that was strange. It smelled of wolf and Helotes slowed his steed for a moment to sniff the wind and find exactly where it was coming from. It wasn’t unusual for all species of canine to move past the border, but not long enough to leave a strong scent like this. The hair on the back of his neck rose and he clicked his tongue, pushing Yegua into a canter towards the origin of the smell. His mind suddenly shot to Vesper; she could be in danger!
