The underling decided to speak back after she had dismissed his shallow concern. She resisted the urge to grant him a hostile answer in the form of her bared lines of flawless, milky white teeth. She wasn’t in a mood to make him her opponent before she had judged him worthless as a character. Helotes had shown great promise despite his ability to control the beast that had wrestled itself free once she had drawn enough lines of weeping red across his frame. Red seemed to be the trigger of so much in this fucked up family of theirs. What would this male’s blood reveal about him and his heritage? Yes. Instead of the grimace she so wished to grant him, Halo settled on a subtle, curved smile, before glancing away from his scarred face to gaze ahead. The ache in her leg remained, but had already become an uncomfortable throb worthy only as background. She’d rather focus on this horror before her. Was he a wild beast as his sibling?

The man confirmed what she already knew, and she lifted her maw just a little, as a silent acknowledgement of his assurance in words. Instead of discovering a name to go with the masculine beast, he bawled about relations. Red eyes narrowed just the slightest, though she didn’t go with the impulse to roll her eyes. What seemed to be rather special about the clan was that the majority usually seemed to be filled up with relatives. Kaena had birthed many children, and she had foolishly thought she had known of most about the Lykoi branches, once. The growth was beyond control, so she had given up getting a clear overview of who was who and just accepted the surname when it was given. ”Somehow,” the exotic woman chimed, moving her glance back to his magnificent form. He hadn’t taken up the warrior rank as his brother, though she did wish to believe that the scars meant that he was suited for the purpose of violence if it was presented to him.

”So, Helotes’ brother,” she continued through a sweetened smile. ”Did you arrive with your brother? I’m afraid I don’t know much about you lot. How many of you are there?” She had seen the siblings at the meeting, but didn’t choose to believe it was the full number. Someone always failed to show up when an alpha called, for various reasons, and it would be nice to get a confirmed number of how many they were. She wished to know them all, and learn if they would choose to disappoint her as well like too many others did. But this man’s brother’s impression had given her foolish hope that there was promise in Kerberos’ children. Gods knew there were enough pathetic wannabe Lykois around, and she found it necessary to filter through those worth wasting time with.

Your faith walks on broken glass

Halo Lykoi
