Kiara payed only a little attention to Jace as she tried to herd Sarian over to the tree. Her snowy ears flipped back as the three-toned woman vomited up the water she must have swallowed and it nearly hit poor X'yrin. Despite being mostly water, the putrid stench still floated over the cold air and struck Kiara's nose. The snow wolf wondered if Jace was alright, but didn't dare turn her head for fear that Sarain might slip past her.

Why did this happen? What was wrong with being happy? Why couldn't Shiloh give birth to healthy puppies? Why? Why? Why? These questions ran through Kiara's mind as she watched the horrible scene unfold. Two puppies were dead, and one was so badly deformed. Even if Shiloh had carried to term, the deformed puppy might not have survived. It was a cruel thing to find out and it took all of her strength of will not to stare at the deformed puppy. Shiloh had placed the lifeless boy next to his sister and the sad sight broke Kiara's heart. The stench of vomit combined with the stench of death and blood almost made Kiara hurl herself.

Despite Kiara's sorrow, she could hear the others join in her song. Their heads raised to the heavens and their voices traveled over the land. Each one added to the song, filling it with pain and loss. Even Jace, who held no love for Shiloh, joined in with her own mournful cry. The three-toned women's voice was so beautiful and it only made the song even sadder. Soon their song had ended, yet Jace continued to look towards the sky. Her posture reminded Kiara of her mother and the way she used to pray. Was Jace also praying? Kiara felt like she had been betrayed by any gods or spirits or Great Mothers that may exist. She had prayed for the safety of Shiloh and her puppies, but now the puppies were dead and Shiloh was hovering on the brink of life and death. Kiara eyed Jace as she swore to never pray again. Such a thing was a waste of her time and energy.

Kiara was incredibly grateful that X'yrin was taking Sarian away. Kiara needed to help Shiloh and she wouldn't leave the grey woman's side. However, she realized the importance of keeping Sarain safe and away from this terrible scene. With Sarain in good hands, the arctic wolf could place her full attention on Shiloh. She was shocked to find that Shiloh had passed out and her body was growing cold. The wound on the grey woman's side was bad as well. Kiara whined and started licking her face, hoping to wake Shiloh up. Kiara looked around frantically, unsure of what to do. Should she try and move Shiloh or was that too dangerous. But if Kiara didn't do anything Shiloh would freeze to death.

The snow wolf steeled herself, preparing for the immense pain that this would cause her. Kiara stood up, her front paws working furiously to get rid of some of the snow. Once that was done, she tried to force herself underneath Shiloh's body. It took some time, and a little wiggling, but soon Kiara had managed to get her small body beneath Shiloh's larger form. With a great heave the snow wolf stood up, her legs shaking and her scars burning while most of Shiloh's body still drapped on the ground. Kiara whimpered a little, but she at least she did not collapse. In her mind, she was going through the route they needed to take back home. With a great amount of effort, she started to walk each step slow and difficult. She needed to get Shiloh out of the cold, and this was the only way she could think of.
