Odessa sounded like a girl still dreaming with rose tinted glasses. This could be forgiven; as long as she stayed grounded, Salvia could care less what she did with her personal time. It was not her job to keep the other members in check, but she hoped that her cousin would be able to keep her head clear for this task at hand.

Luna let out a heavy breath and Salvia watched her body. The water gushing from her signified that the birth was close. Another shifting grunt from the pale horse brought forth another rush of water. Salvia looked to Odessa, eyes bright and full of excitement. Something new was happening here, and she was thrilled to see it. What would the foal look like? Would it be a male or a female?

The mare grunted again and strained, and the first dark sign of birth appeared. Salvia lingered back until she could make out the shape—two legs, and another thrust brought forth the head. Then, to her worry, Luna shifted and strained again. Fearing that the baby might be stuck, Salvia dropped and grabbed at the birthing sack. She gripped two spindly legs and pulled, and with Luna’s pushing, helped the baby make it out. Sharp claws ripped away the fleshy, slick covering of the baby so it could breathe before Salvia quickly stepped back. It was now out her hands.

Luna’s instincts took over and she licked at the foal quickly, beginning to clean it even as her body finished with its needs. The blonde girl, pleased by the ease of the birth, looked to Odessa. Once the pair were upright she would want Odessa to help her look over the mare to ensure that she wasn’t injured in any unseen way. The rich mixture of grass and oats that had been given to all the pregnant horses would continue while they nursed, but she was curious if further herbs would aid them.
