He did not answer the first thing she said. He had very little to say that might comfort someone who had been through that kind of rejection from those whom they loved. Even if he'd known something to tell her, it would have meant little coming from him. Even less, if she knew what he was here to do, what sort of person he was. What sort of person am I?
"It's too early to tell you honestly," he said, blowing right past the hypocrisy of what he was saying and what he had already done. "I haven't been here long. I chose to join because I suspected that this place might be a happy place for me, but it is too early to say. I have been journeying for a long time, and I can't yet say if setting up roots here was a better idea than continuing to follow my feet."
