The sun filtered through the house, patterns of light and dark filling the air. Dalgina watched happily, noting the contrasts, the light warm and cheery with the dark small and inviting. They played together so beautifully, an open invitation for her to dive into. Slowly the sick pup made her way to Papa's side, noting the wood pieces now covering the floor. Coughing slightly she smiled up at her papa. He was so large next to her, though their dark fur was the same. The tray of ash was picked up and placed before them, Dalgina waiting to be told if she could start.
Small giggles came from the pup as her nose was stroked with the ash, a sooty grey stripe now going down it. Sticking her paw in Dalgina moved to the first piece of wood. A thick dark line cut down it, Dalgina carefully working to mimic the plays of light that she saw through the house, thin and thick lines dotting the light colored wood. Backing up Dalgina nodded with satisfaction, feeling it was done, and moved over to the next one. Clumsily she traced her paw, this time trying to show the darkness wrapping around, safe and warm. A small space in the center was left, showing the swaddled pup, ash swallowing the rest of the wood as Dalgina dived into her private world.
