Cerberus
Word Count :: 357 Bahaha *excited*

The silence carried on for quite a while before it was disturbed by the crackling of wheels and horse hooves over the ground. Granted, Cerberus had smelled the beast before he heard it, but he was so lost in his reverie that he’d hardly acknowledged it. His ear might have twitched or his guard hairs might have quivered, perhaps his tail even swished toward the animal. But whatever movement he’d made, large or small, it had gone unnoticed to the coywolf. Turning his head now, he gazed toward the approaching carriage, somewhat surprised to see it driven by a luperci who seemed to know well enough what she was doing.

Ceri’s arms dropped to his sides as he turned his body completely toward the carriage. While he knew that many luperci had adopted some of the ways of the humans, it still awed him to see them doing things that seemed so unnatural. But even so, he’d always longed for a horse of his own. His father had a chestnut mare that he used to carry him through the woods while hunting, but he’d never allowed Cerberus to ride it. Many a night was spent beside that mare, stroking her neck in secrecy after his parents assumed he’d gone to bed. Now the prospect of owning such a beast seemed even farther out of reach, as he knew that a pack set in the four-legged ways of their ancestors would never allow such humanistic methods of transportation on their grounds. As the carriage drew closer, he stared in envy at the large beast, and then gazed up at the woman driving the cart. He’d only noted the canine peering out the window with a brief glance, but now he allowed himself a second look. There was something oddly familiar about the creature, and for a moment Cerberus wondered if they’d met before.

Afternoon miss, he called up to the she-wolf with a smile. Where ya’ headed? His mismatched eyes were back on the woman now, and he placed his hands on his hips in a calm manner as he slowly shifted his weight from side to side.
