plucking strings and broken wings

He sat in bliss for a moment in the soft, plush grass, the sunlight filtering down to meet him on the forest's floor. Suddenly, however, he twisted his body to a standing position, eyes narrowed and alert - his stomach squeezed and his ears flattened, although he did not yet know why. However, as a moment passed, it was made clear - he could scent a horse approaching.

His last encounter with horses had not gone over well at all; it had been spooked in Dahlia de Mai, running past Element and breaking his leg in the process. It was only thanks to Conor Soul that the black felis's leg had healed correctly at all - although he was intelligent, he did not possess the hands or the medical knowledge to set his leg correctly and bind it. It was no wonder, then, that horses made him nervous now.

He turned, finding the source of the scent; a brown and black beast of a horse stood on the edge of the clearing, a coyote in its humanoid form using it as its mount. He allowed himself to relax a bit - this horse had a rider, and although it could still harm Element, he knew it was there, and the horses with riders were more calm than wild ones. His large, keen ears caught the words of the rider to her horse, and he lay down in the grass once again.

"That is correct," he said. "Unless your horse is also a mouse, I have no interest in hunting him," he finished, licking his paw nonchalantly, as if the presence of the horse and its coyote rider did not faze him at all.
