All the emotions that existed here and now might have usually made him nervous, but for some reason, Kansas wasn't nervous about them at all. It seemed like he and Savina were sharing the same feelings, about having lost someone... about each other. Unexpectedly, she licked his cheek so softly, and despite his surprise, Kansas felt warmth spread from the place her tongue had touched him all the way to his toes. She snuggled closer, and he brought his arm around her small shoulders.

The rain was still falling fairly hard; he was grateful for the porch, because he could share the storm with her. She didn't reject him; act like his happiness toward her being there was unwanted. She went on to say she'd met his sister, though what she told him made him a bit uneasy. He'd heard about what had happened to Cercelee; he hated thinking that Inferni would hurt such a sweet girl. Really? Yeah, she is great... He adored all of his siblings, but he didn't think any of them had as big a heart as Ember did.

He rubbed her shoulder slightly with his thumb. Have you been here for awhile? Maybe a belated question, but he was curious about how long they'd been subconsciously dodging one another.
