The day was a bit dreary over Sangi’lak today. The clouds hung heavy and grey around the summit of mount Oromocto. Their vapor wisps reached down as if the sheet of grey had been hooked and torn like a cloth by the mountain that now held it in place. A cold rain had dampened the earth below Jaden’s dark paws around dawn but besides that early shower, the sky only threatened to drop more. It was an odd feeling to be so happy on a day like this. Almost unnatural. But, unnatural or not, Jaden found absolutely nothing to be upset about. The woman he led with and loved was now his mate. He could still smell her where she had claimed him and often felt the cougar tooth necklace resting on his breath tenderly. These things alone filled him with a grand joy that held no bounds. Seeing her lovely features again after only a few days of travel was such an exciting prospect that it had the male’s stomach twisted and his heart beating rapidly with longing.
But an eerie call suddenly put a heavy dampener on the man’s joy. He recognized Thana’s voice immediately and knew she would call for nobody but him. It brought his hurried strides to a sudden halt. Why had the dark woman returned to Sangilak? The memory of her bitter goodbye wasn’t fresh any longer. He had accepted her as gone. But having her so close and hearing her voice again settled a sad and heavy confusion in him. She had left because he would not give up X’yrin for her while his dearest friend had stayed. Now, because of that lovely woman’s persistence, she held his heart with both paws. Thana would receive no second chances. Jaden was done being unable to decide because she had already made the choice for him.
The Issum approached Thana where she stood between him and his home. Upon his face was a worried expression that told of his confusion at seeing her again. But he wasn’t nasty to her nor would he demand to know why she had come back. Noting that Anna was nowhere to be seen, he waited till he was within about fifty feet of the woman and stopped. Their relationship was too damaged to permit a more comfortable distance. Hello Thana. How are you?
