_____His coal-black nose hovered over the ground as he paced quietly through the thinly veiled forest, drawing in the different smells and sights that hadn't been previous covered. Off and on he had been tracking a small herd of elk as they had wandered through, but he hadn't given them chase. If he had learnt anything from the months of travelling, it was not to attack things that were either more armed, heavy, or bigger than himself when he was alone. Yet they had been interesting to watch, even if he hadn't seen any of them that would have been fit for the whole pack to take down eventually. Surprisingly enough, they seemed to be of decent health and age all the way around.

_____Pausing near the edge of the forest, he raised his head and peered out to the vast plain that stretched out ahead of them. To think that they were claiming this for themselves pleased him. It was panoramic and in the right light, stunning in its own way. Off in the distance, he easily picked out the tall antlers of one bull elk just as he heard the bellow of another. He had no desire to chase them or attempt to hunt them, but instead was taking simple enjoyment just out of observing them for the time being. At least, he would until something else came along or his interest puttered out completely.
