Who sucks? I suck! Love you guys! Geneva felt her heart contract warmly in her chest after Salem crawled into her lap. He was such a reserved child, but his ready affection was so unexpected and it warmed her heart. She passed her fingers gently between his ears, trying to giving him the same attention she gave Haven. She didn't want to treat the brothers any differently. She turned the page and began to read the beginning of the story to them. There were little illustrations at the beginning of every chapter in this version of Peter Pan, but it was not a picture book. She had picked it out with Haven in mind, thinking that his imagination would be able to conjure up beautiful, vivid pictures for him. She stopped sometimes, running her finger under a word to show the pups different letters. "This word is 'Hook,'" she said, at one point. "It begins with a letter H like your name does, Haven. If you say the beginning of your names, you'll notice that the H makes a 'Huh' sound." She read further along the page aloud, until she came to another word of interest. "This is the word 'sea.' It has an S at the beginning, like your name does, Salem. It makes a Sss sound," she said, hissing slightly through her teeth. She wanted the boys to learn, but didn't want to take away from the story. |
