The wide-eyed little girl had so much living to do. And she was already lost in the big, bad world. Her heart went out to Zana. She just hoped that she really would find her dad one of these days. And hopefully soon. The little one would need guidance and protection against the cruelty of the world until she grew and could deal with it on her own.
Geneva might have offered Zana a place to stay in Crimson Dreams, but she couldn't imagine any of the males she knew from her pack not alerting everyone to the fact that their daughter was missing. She went through the males of her pack in her mind. Jazper had only recently become Garnet's mate, Ehno was an unattached wanderer and probably wouldn't have children during his travels, and Kansas had Savina. She was certain that anyone in her pack would have alerted her to the fact that a child was missing. Which meant that the answer lay elsewhere, hopefully somewhere along this way.
The trees were thinning and now they were coming upon what appeared to be a territory. It was marked by skulls on stakes. Geneva cocked her head at that and looked down at the child. Would an innocent belong here? The skulls looked to belong mostly to wolves. "Is this where your daddy might be, Zana?"
